I was right out of training myself IP. Was still wearing my winter weight gear when they loaded us up on the plane... Someone should have told us that December in Panama was the "Dry season" (summer in the jungle).

After 'Just Because', I ended up getting stationed down there at Ft. Clayton, did my stint and got involuntarily extended down there......... Did 90% of my hitch there... Got shot at, off and on, by the Ding-Bat's and MD20 for almost 3 1/2 years....

Did you get to jump into Rio Hato air field or Omar Torrios Airport?

I saw a lot of the 82nd guys in my area, but not too many Rangers. Shit load of 7th I.D. also.

My unit jumped into Torrijos. 2nd and 3rd Bats took care of Hato. We didn't stay too long... had to get back to the swamps and jungles of Benning!

Patilla airfield, myself. Scared kid still trying to grow my hair back from LeJeune, came from the USS Bataan. We didn't come in ABN, we deployed from the brand new UH-60s the Corps received. I got so damn sick on that ride I was willing to pay somebody to strap a napkin to me and throw me out of anything else at that point. Shaddup Pyro, I was a kid back then. And, Recoil, I don't even want to hear what you're thinkin'. Like you guys ain't puked on a helo flight.

I ended up on the Panama city side of the Bridge of Americas (closest to La Camendancia) at an access control point on the first night and following week of the invasion. We had Marine F.A.S.T. teams down below us working the lower end of the bridge, in the event that one of Noriega's Ding-Bat's tried to blow the bridge.

Those were the only Marines I saw during the whole operation. You get any part of that?

Nooo, wish I had been though. Those FAST Co. guys were bad boys. I was part of the follow-up group that secured the airfield after SeAL Team Four, US Navy, took the hangars at Patilla. They blew a bunch of holes in Pineapple-face's private Lear along with shooting a buttload of holes in his backup plane. They took a number of casualties, being out there in the open. We just showed up to put a few more holes in the enemy and get the Navy the hell out of there.
