My uncle recently gave me a Colt Commando .38 revolver. I know they were roughly produced in the 1940's but that is about it. Anyone have some info on these and their possible worth?? It is in about 90-95% original condition with the original parkerizing in good shape. Thanks for any help!!

They were made 1942 to 1945. Similar to Colt Official Police model E-1 That is all info I have. Value unknown. Revolver Guy probably has ALL info on this one.

Look like this? Look for a "G" etched on the bottom of the butt. If so you have some WW2 memorabilia... :)

EDIT => The last time I checked (my grandfather had one of these), the full size was selling ~$800 and snub ~$1000 if you had the original box, papers, etc., and the piece was well maintained (no rust, etc.). ymmv

There is no "G" on the butt however it looks just like the pic you posted TRIL. Here are some pics of the pistol. There is no serial number but the patent date says 1926. These are all the marking I could find on the gun. Sorry for the bad pics as I am no photographer.

Doc,

Open the cylinder and look at the frame inside, opposite the crane. You should find a S/N there. They have also put the S/N ont he bottom of the grip frame in the past. If I was a betting man, I'd wager your gun in marked with a S/N, you just havn't found it yet. Colt (as were most large makers) was pretty good about keeping production records and that is almost impossible to do without keeping track of S/N's... Especially on military contract guns.
