Mix a little at a time and practice on something your not too worried about the first time! I usually progress in layers similar to rifle color. So if it's a black rifle, I progress dark to light, if it's a light rifle, light to dark. Get mixing cups - either medicine cups or paint mixing cups at a autobody paint store. Do not mix it in Styrofoam or Dixie cups (duracoat will eat the living @&%# out of both). Give it plenty of cure time before assembly - at least 24 hours, and I'd give it at least a week minimum before you consider shooting it.
Prep work is the most important. Wear disposable gloves during cleaning and from then on, to avoid any hand oil contamination. Any oil contamination on the rifle surface will prevent a good bond and cause it to flake up later. So, use whatever method necessary to purge all oils from the entire surface of all the parts, and then don't touch it after the fact. Carb cleaner, rubbing alcohol, duracoat product, acetone, sandblasting, or a mix of methods - you get the idea.
