If your looking for 'in between sheen' work with the hardner instead of trying crazy stuff with clear coat! More hardener = slightly glossier Less hardener = slightly flatter. This is not going to have much variation, just a little bit. I think they do offer satin clear coat... which is what you should be after. And IP is correct - clear coat on top evens out sheen variation between colors themselves, trying to mix sheen levels into individual colors is counter productive. I do believe you can tweak the sheen just a little bit on the clear coat layer by varying hardener. Again, counter productive to do that on individual colors.
And no, have not been to duracoat 'U'. I've seen pictures of the place, the class, and the 'product' they put out, and frankly, I'm not impressed. Not going to learn anything. It's just a way for them to pull revenue in my opinion, charging people for the 'right?' to be 'certified'. And as far as I can tell, it doesn't pull you any business. The only people that visit lauer are people that want to spray it themselves. And people don't care about a sticker from Lauer, they care about pictures of guns you have already done.
It's like cars... Would you get your muscle car.. your 'baby' sprayed by the guy certified by dupont site unseen or the guy that sprayed the ghost pinstripes on the 72 corvette at the car show you just went to.
I've been airbrushing since I was a little kid. Personally, I think their instructors could use a little 'instructing'. I think a six year old could spray a better gun than many of their samples.
