TBird,
They don't do bluing, they have a proprietary coating method, which essentially, bonds to the medal on a molecular level. That's almost verbatim what I was told when I first called them. Seems that Mr. Birdsong was a chemical engineer and saw a need for coatings which inhibited corrosion. The weird thing about the compound on the rifle, it's clear. There are no dyes in the chemical. Don't ask me how it turns the metal black, or green, or desert tan...I couldn't tell you.
LRanger,
I was told by the company that lubrication on coated areas was no longer required. Still, I'll add a drop or two here and there, just for gits and shiggles. The bolt runs just as smoothly as it always has...I'm impressed by the work.
There are 3 primary colors:
Black-T and it's variations of OD Green, Desert Tan and Dark Earth Brown.
As I stated earlier, according to the literature I received from them, their major contracts are with the FBI, Delta Force, Navy SeALS, other branches of the US Military and many, many Police Dept.s around the nation.
For less than 2 Benjamins...you can't beat it.
