where to get them

I was at a gun show where I bought my AR and a dealer who sold me a 37mm launcher also had some expended LAW rocket tubes. These tubes were relatively cheap and could be reloaded with rockets that when hitting their target would expell smoke, indicating your accuracy. When in the National Guard I was always a big fan of this weapon and should have bought one when I had the chance. Does anyone know where to get these devices? I have looked on the internet, found information about them and the AT-4, but that is all. I love to own one to add to my collection. I'd appreciate any help in locating one. Yep I've had the pleasure of firing the LAW with training sub-munitions, And then the real deal.

I think the LAW is no longer in service or issued.......It was around during the Vietnam era and as cool as it was : It was only marginal against Armored Targets, You had to get a good hit in a vital area , Like between body and turrent, Engine compartment, Or at least shoot for the tracks to disable the vehicle....That's why they went to the AT- 4.

Not 100% sure but I think they have to be De-Milled in some fashion so as not to be able to fire anything.....That doesn't mean some ingenious person could figure it out - But really it's just a Fiberglass tube.....You see them mostly at the Army Surplus stores as wall Hangers.

And Yeah : A lot of Snobby Sites out there........

Your experience speaks well for you. Unfortunately, or maybe fortuately, I joined near the end of the conflict. A classmate of mine became a tunnel rat, but I'll freely admit I've never seen real combat. I even volunteered to go to Iraq, but alas I'm now too old. Perhaps the no combat is what drives my desires and passion for exotic weapons.
From what this firearms dealer told me, BATF will allow you to reload a LAW but with only smoke, nothing anti-personell, as with my 37mm launcher. If I have the launcher (which I already do) and also have some anti-personell shells, I'd be in big trouble with the feds. I never discovered the fun of black powder until I bought this launcher. It's one of the early ones, the IMP, looks just about like the 40 mm. I could register it and I know how to make just about anything, but I don't see the need at this point in time. This dealer spoke of competetions they would have, somewhere near Cape Cod Massachusetts where they would play army. Hanging it up on my wall is about all I have planned for a LAW, but it's obviously nice to have a working model for Bar B Ques and such. I live pretty much in the sticks of NH, target shoot right off my porch regularly. Even the Police here are quite pro gun for civilians. When I was living in Mass, I almost obtained a 'License to Possess a Machine Gun', a state requirement in addition to a FFL. In Mass the firearms laws are even more restrictive since I left. Now, if you have a spent casing in your vehicle or possession and do not have a 'Firearms Identification Card' you can plan on a year and a half vacation, MANDATORY, the judge has no choice. A friend of mine, a family man and I went to a gun show. He live in Hampton near the border, his daughter was attending college for forensic study and after the show she wanted to be dropped off at a Mall in Haverill, Ma. He wasn't thinking period. Stopped at a gas station to fuel up. This station was already being watched by police for drug dealing, plain clothes snooping everywhere.. He had a Charter Arms AR-7 disassembled into its stock and covered with a towel in the back seat. Unfortunately a little of the but plate was visible, cops saw it. And you know the rest. It destroyed his family, job, reputation, now going to be divorced soon, unemployeed and almost homeless. The police lied at the trial, a total unnecessary mess. So I stay and operate within the boinds of the law, it's just easier.
And you're correct about the LAW being replaced. I understand it was uselss against modern armor, unlike the AT-4. Thanks for your reply. If anyone else out there knows where I can find an expended launch tube, I've be very grateful. Take care, John

Google, then call around to any Army/Navy Surplus store in the state of Florida and they probably will trip over one trying to answer your phone call.

the LAW is still in use today. we used them more then Smaw-d's or AT-4's in afghanistan. so much easier to carry then a big rocket.

That's cool, I wasn't sure........I left the Army in 1993 a few years after Desert Storm.

Yeah, They'd be effective against softer targets and buildings, Etc........'AND' a Hell of a lot lighter than lugging around an AT-4 (LOL)

Bluetorch is correct. I used them several times to breach courtyard doors. Very effective to say the least.(Also kill secondary devices)

For the demil i'm pretty sure is the bands that are painted on the tubes after fired. They must be present at all times. I remember hearing awhile back in jersey someone had one out that was spent but got the bomb squad and everyone excited.

During one of several trips to Camp Pendleton as a kid (step-dad was a Gunny sgt.) my brother received a fired LAW tube. When the kids played army, he was the coolest kid in the neighborhood toting that LAW.

My kid wishes he could get one but I haven't seen one in any of the few decent surplus shops around these parts. Don't matter though, there's probably a law on the books against them here in the PCRM.
