I used a M-14 Full Auto in combat and so now I purchased a M1A (M-14) from Quantico Supply Mil and Cop shop.

I read that one should not use .308 civilian ammunition in a M1A (M-14) but rather Mil suplus 7.62x51 only because the civilian ammunition is too sensitive to "Slam Fire" accidents. I guess when you close the bolt there have been incidents of the round going off?

So, I sent for 7.62x51 (.308), said to be surplus from sportsmans guide.

Is this going to be OK in a Springfield Armory M1A Standard 22" Barrel?

Side Note: All the large units of surplus are gone...I heard many Militia groups are expecting something big this winter via false flag by our own fed gov..Paranoia? A lot of Tom Paines on LSD out there in my opinion. But ammo is harder to come by for last year.

I've been reloading for M1A's now for about 16 years using commercial primers with no mishaps......Slamfires are usually the culmination of a few things going wrong to cause them : Very Sensitive Primers, Primers not seated well below case head, Dirty Chamber, Firing pin Sticking/Protruding.....And the all time number one : Loading rounds singly into chamber and letting the bolt slam shut......Though rare they 'DO' happen - So being mindful of the above causes helps to prevent one.......M1A's, Garands and other Military Rifles with free float firing pins are the one's to be more careful with........Also I've heard from multiple sources that Federal's Commercial Primers are more sensitive and have caused a few slams.

Try visiting sites like Widener's and Natchez as I've seen ammo stocks steadily starting to become available.

I just recently worked up a new 'Pet load' for my M1A and Garands :

168 Gr BTHP(Privi)......42 GR RamShot 'TAC'......CCI #200 Primer......I have a good Average of 2601 FPS.........All at about .31 cents a round long as my brass holds up.

OOPS !!!........My Bad - I've retracted that statement as Room is correct(I Think), I have a difficult time telling the two apart as the sales catalogs look somewhat similar to me.

I believe it was CTD that ran paraniod adds like : 'Buy Now Before Obama Bans !!! ' Etc.....And all their prices on Ammo and Mags shot up over night.

The .308 Win. civilain round is actual loaded to higher psi than nato spec.

The use of civilain loads often cause the op. rod to bend,(replacement price

of new op. rod will make you cry). You can reload to mil. spec. (web sight to

this information excapes me now). Try www.schach.comfor projectiles and

brass, and (Zediker Publishing; found it for you) for special reloading

inforamtion for M1A,s.

I've since gone back to 41.5 Gr of IMR 4895 behind the 168 SMK style, runs about 2550 FPS which indicates below 50,000 psi by the data - Safe for military auto loaders IMHO. All my service rifles like this load and the slower burning powder seems to have an easier recoil and cycling it seems.

It's not so easy to bend an Op Rod but it can be done if one's not careful....
