Real Meal Deal ???

A lot of us have been preparing for whatever storms are heading our way.......So I'd like to bring this product up for consideration.

I was in the Army from 1983 - 1993......So the last time i saw one of these was like 17 yrs ago, I can remember some of the first ones we had as horrible : Something that looked like Eggs, Dehydrated Beef and Pork patties, The freeze dried Fruits, The hard assed Crackers.........Then towards the end of my service they were product improved to include more menu items, The accessory packets came with more stuff and Hot sauce, The MRE Bread Etc., And they wasn't half bad........And trust me : Like most of you guys that served during conflict I ate my fair share of these things......They were Breakfest and Lunch for months on end, And was lucky to get a hot Dinner from a field kitchen serving pre-prepared rations that were basically the same stuff.

Used to be able to find these things everywhere - Then they became illegal for commercial sale and companies started making the generic ones that just look wimpy, with crap like Tea and Granola Bars....You know like the ones from Sportsman's Guide, Etc.

So if you read the ad these are the real deal military rations made for a Government Contractor that shorted their order due to scaling back operations 'AND' are not Marked : 'US Goverment Property - Commercial Retail sale is Unlawful'.....Which means we can buy them while they last.

I haven't seen 'THESE' anywhere else.......But they are pricey.

So I'm asking some of you newer Soldiers to check this link out and tell me if it's the real deal - It looks real to me, But I'm a little skeptical about the menu items.....They used to have quite a few others.....Or they now have different rations in the cases per letter code : A, B, C, Etc.

Max, IMHO this is the best way to go. Found them a few months ago
and I am sold on the food, the company and the service.
Browse the site. I now have enough stored to feed one adult for 2 years
and I'll be getting more in the near future. 15 yr storage life.

This site has a good selection of freeze dried and extended storage foods too. I like the Mountain House foods. All that I tried are very tasty!

Gotta try the 'Ranger Pudding'.

What's needed:

Chocolate Milkshake Mix

Cocoa Mix

Sugar

Creamer

(for added energy put a coffee mix in)

Add water to get consistency of pudding.

I tried that shit once. No thanks. As far as the MREs go, I have a case that I bough from Sportsman's Guide (or some similar place) that I keep in SHTF storage unit.

Yep tried the Ranger Pudding(LOL)......But they didn't have a Milk Shake Mix then.

MRE Hamburger :

Dehydrated Beef Patty

MRE Bread

Cheese spread

Dehydrated Ketchup

Yeah I looked at the Mountain House foods, They carry it at Walmart......But the stuff is $4.88 - $5.88 for a single Entree Packet(They are tasty)......The MRE's above will run $7.90 each after shipping - But you get the whole MRE Packaged Meal W/Heater.....The shipping does come down a little the more you buy, Say 3 Cases : $7.62 per meal.

The ones I'm looking at are 2009 production.......You have to be careful because others are selling lots as old as 2005(Or older)......Depending on storage conditions they stay good for 3-10 years.

There are lots of 'Shelf Stable' regular foods at the Super Market - But I'm looking at these as SHTF/Grab and Go/Coolness Factor (LOL)

I've been eating Gov't issue MRE's for lunch for the last month (cause we spend most of our time in the field). My favorite is the spaghetti and meatballs. My old favorite was Chicken-ala-king, but they no longer make those.

Believe it or not, they actually have 'Vegan' MRE's now. Nobody in my section/unit eats them, so there are always 10 or so left over every week. We go through 2-3 cases a week...we call them 'food stamps'. Hey, they're 'free'.

I ate my fair share of these things on deployments. We lived off of them for 90 days straight once. I have never been so constipated in my life. Why you would want to own any is beyond me. My suggestion: learn to live off the land.

we coined some phrases for them, my favorite:

MRE- Meals Rejected by Ethiopians

Eat up boys. I'll stick with deer meat and grubs. Tree bark and acorn bread are better to me.

I was always partial to the red beans and rice myself. I thought the issue MRE's were damn tasty compared to some of the mess decks' offerings.

While I respect the opinions of my buds here, I disagree with most of the findings on the MRE. In fact, when I can get ahold of them, Jo doesn't have to worry about cooking for my son or I while those things last. Only drawback is, at this rate, we'll never be able to store the damn things as food.

I always found the damn brownie would plug me up for a week. I would drink the oil out of the peanut butter to try and loosen some things up haha. I do use the mre's for deep woods hunting when weight is an issue.

You guys are soft. Maybe you should all go to a dude ranch for a day or two and harden up some.

The 19 guys in my unit eat them almost everyday for lunch and love 'em. I've never been stopped up from any MRE I've eaten. We go through enough shit-paper every day to make me think none of the other guys have problems either.

Come on Recoil,

You have to admit that the MREs you are eating today are light years away from the ones in the Desert Storm and Somalia years. They had started to get better by the time I got out in '98. No more Chicken-ALA-King (you never knew if you'd get a beak or a toe nail in that one).

You don't need to be hard to put these new ones down. Shoot, some of the new ones are better than the stuff at the Home Town Buffet.

I liked the Chik A-La Kringe. With the correct application, it made a fine rust remover. You guys remember the Gen-1 MREs with the heat tabs and the little tin stands? That was my only complaint with those things, hell you were better off throwing the entree pouches on the intake manifold of the Hummers (for those of us lucky enough to have one nearby).

We eat MREs when we have CATM training, or field training. My favorites are the ravioli and spaghetti...

Those look just like the NEW ones...just dont have the GOV markings...

Heres the test of true bad ass...who can eat the 2 mre saltine crackers in under 2 minutes with no water???

If you've never done it, try it good bet to lose money on.

and the best meal is meatloaf with the crackers and cheese all mixed in and ground up. that'll put hair on the front of your back or cause an ulcer.

I'll vouch for Steady Squeeze's vote on the Mountain House stuff. Got some of those myself, damn good eatin' I'll admit! Sorry bud, didn't mean to jump over ya like that!
