I have decided to get a new pistol. I looked at the Springfield XD 45, the H&K USP 45 and 45 TACTICAL, and the FNP .45. I had pretty much settled on the FNP 45 until the salesman showed me an FN Five Seven.

Now I don't know what to do. I have pistols now in 9mm, 40 S&W, and .357 SIG. I was planning on getting a high cap 45 just to have all the major calibers covered if there is ever another ammo shortage. I really like the capacity of the Five Seven and I like the speed and energy or the round. It would be a backup to my rifle just like my other pistols.

So what do you guy's think? I would load the FN Five Seven with Barnes X 45 grn bullets. The FNP would probably be loaded with 200 grn hollow points of some variety.

I am not settled on the 5.7's ballistics as a "man stopper" and I am fairly certain that 5.7 ammo will always be harder to find and more expensive than .45 ACP.

I like the concept of the 5.7, but mostly as a varmint/plinker rather than use as a defensive pistol. I know that it was designed to compliment the P90 subgun as defensive pistol and that the ammo was intended to punch through Comm-block body armor (in it's military form/loading), but it still doesn't have me convinced that ballistically, in live tissue, it is much more than a fast .22 magnum. I do like the concept of a 20 round magazine.....

The terminal ballistics is what is stopping me from doing it as well. It would be a lot easier to hit a target at 50 yards with a 5.7 than a .45 but if the target just ran off that wouldn't make much difference.

Do you have any idea what the speed of the 45 grain bullet would be at 10 or 15 yards? Would it be like hitting someone with a 5.56 round at 100, 200, 300??????????

I'd like to point out on your comment about the 5.7, yeah, he may "run off" at 50 yards after being hit, but he's still got a hole through his ass and I can bet you that he "ain't" feeling too hot either!

A 50 yard pistol shot is awesome and the 5.7 (from what IP describes) can serve up that core-bonded sandwich with ease. I can also bet you that whatever he was doing prior to being shot won't be duplicated after the fact!

However, I am on the .45 bandwagon. Can't get much better "proven" stopping power! HK, Sig...the choices are endless. Post up pics of what you get.

Picked up the FNP .45 USG for myself and a S&W 642 with laser grips for my wife. Haven't had a chance to shoot either one of them yet. I'll post up some pictures and shooting impressions once the temps get back above freezing.

Congrats on your purchase. I'm surprised you aren't using a 'mother nature backstop' to test fire them on. I'm sure you have some huge snowbanks out there right now.

That FNP USG 45 is a HK 45 for $300 less money. Nice buy buddy! I'm assuming you get a discount on top of that? I love my HK USP, but damn that FNP is sexy and gives me the shakes.
