KIMBER .22 CONVERSION UNIT

I have a Springfield Armory Model 1911-A1, .45 ACP in stainless steel. It is of the Springfield Armory 'Loaded' series with all the goodies. It's a wonderful piece to shoot and never malfunctions or misfeeds. I few weeks ago I bought a Kimber .22 Conversion Unit with the idea that I'd now have a really sweet shooting .22 rimfire pistol. I assembled the Kimber unit to my SA M1911-A1 and found that right off the recoil spring will not operate the slide. Am I doing something wrong? Is the Kimber kit just not compatible with my SA M1911-A1? Or is the Kimber kit a piece of junk? Anyone else have any experience with these units?

Nevermind. I figured it out myself. The manual suggests cleaning both the Kimber Conversion Unit as well as the M1911 pistol. After a good cleaning it works slick.

I have a Wilson conversion kit I have been using for years and love it. I bought a Kimber unit as a gift for my brother last year, so he would quit stealing mine. He installed it on a Springfield that I had helped him build. With the kit installed he had nothing but problems with it the first time he tried to use it. He took it home, cleaned it, lubed the bejesus out of it and sat in front of the idiot box (t.v.) and cycled the slide about 2000 times. Next trip out to the range, he wiped the excess oil off and it shot great. It is accurate to the point of being boring and as long as the ammo is even remotely usable, it functions perfectly. Now he's using it to teach his 8 year old son how to shoot a pistol and we have to pry it out of his son's hands...
