I can definitely say the majority of the parts are made in house by Remington (I've been talking a little with them). Not everything, but the majority of it. The magazines are contract (as are almost all commercial 1911s on the market), but it is in fact a Remington pistol. They obviously can only tell me so much but it is not just "assembled" by Remington, it is a Remington pistol - which it is great to see them finally entering that market, having them on that competitive base will encourage the entire market. It has been in development for months while they worked on it and tuned it up into being a wonderful production platform. Keep in mind that Remington - and its parent company - are collectivly the largest firearm manufacturer. If anyone can make it, they probably can.
No information on any future models (published or discussed), but I think it is safe to assume we would at least see a 2011, for no other reason than everyone is releasing a centennial model. No guarantees of course, just entering the market now they could sit it out, we shall see. No company would enter with just a single entry into the 1911 field (much less the pistol market), so it's probably a safe guess to make that there will be follow up models for no other reason than it just makes sense.
I'll post some more preliminary information tomorrow once I know what I can talk about. I've heard some test groupings fired by a few people (I will not attribute or quote it), but I have heard that some of the production guns are shooting 1.5" at 25 yards (6MOA), with some examples shooting even up to half that. Impressive for a production gun at that price point. Note - that is just some of the sample grouping on some guns. I'm not saying you will get 1.5" yourself. Lots of variables and that is of course not a guarantee.
