SIG 1911 Stainless vs. Kimber Stainless II .45ACP

I'm ready to take the plung and buy my 1st 1911. I like the stainless frame/stainless slide & a 5' barrel. I want something that I can use for a hammer but it also has to look good (forgive my vanity)! I think an accessory rail is a sin on a beautiful piece like this.

It seems like when I did some research a few months ago that I found a lot of problems with the Sig 1911's. Can anybody provide any insight with the above criteria? My upper limit is $1000 and these just (don't barely) make it!

Should be a boatload of Para's, Springfield's , Kimbers, S&W's' Sig's
Taurus's, STI, Storm Lake, Briley, Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Colt, Nighthawk [ if your willing to buy used ]

Squeeze,

I have two Sig GSR 1911's (one stainless and one blued) and neither one of them have ever had a problem that wasn't ammo related. Both of them have the rail, but if they are any indication of the series of guns being produced by Sig, they are fantastic shooters. My stainless GSR was one of the first stainless models shipped from Sig and it is absolutely the most accurate 'out of the box' pistol I have ever owned that has never been touched by a gunsmith....

With that said, as long as you stay with .45 ACP, I have never had a lick of trouble with any of my Kimber's either.

I have a Kimber and Para... I like them both but I favor the Para. My Para is an LTC (Commander) model. It has a full size frame and a 4 1/4' barrel.

It looks like theSIG has an external extractor & the KIMBER is internal.

TheKimber has a loader chamber indicator and I don't think the SIG does.

And what else? The trigger and those lines on the barrel of the Kimber.

It sure looks like six of one. . .doesn't it? Even the front strap checkering & the hammers are the same!!!

Oh yeah, Lone Ranger,.45 for a 1911 pistol is the way to go.

IMHO, yoyu can't go wrong with either pistol. I bought a Kimber custom eclipse a few years ago and until I bought my S&W 945, it was the most accurate .45I own. It has never failed in any way. I also have a Sig STX that is very nice. It is a two tone and has a Novak style adjustable rear sight Vs. the Bomar type on the Kimber. Very accurate and reliable. Only issue I have had is something went haywire in the rear sight and it would not hold adjustment. Sig sent me a shipping label so I could send the stripped slide back and they fixed the sight and returnd the slide within a week.Because of the sights, the Sig is a little better for 'social work'. Overall, I would rate both pistols slightly ahead of my Para 14, Colt and Springfield Trophy match for one reason or another.

I have two Kimbers, a full sized 'target' le and a custom carry. I have had the full sized pistol since 1997 and it has been accurate and reliable the entire time. I carry the compact concealed and it hasnt failed me either. The only Issue I have ever had was with 'winclean' ammo, my HK usp tactical fed it fine, but not the 1911. MY friends springfield wouldnt either though! A loaded chamber indicator on the kimber?? Where?

Given those choices, go with the Sig 1911. They have no MIM parts. ( Neither do the DW's). Get the most for you money and only have to buy one. John COTEP CBOB0282

So much for he 500 round "break in period". Sure it costs more then the 1911's I was looking at but the trigger is awsome. The groups I shoot with this thing make me feel like I'm cheating.

I've owned both a SIG GSR and a Series 1 Kimber, and I've shot quite a few other makes of 1911. I'd buy a SIG again before anything else.

Unfortunately both my SIG and my Kimber were stolen, at one point or another.

I'm looking at buying a full-size USP .45 next, unless I go for another GSR ... haven't decided yet ...

I still don't own a 1911 & now it's at the bottom of the list.

The only thing I don't like about the H&K)'>USP is it doesn't have that substantial all-metal-feel like a 38oz. stainless steel full size GSR. Or even a SIG P220 Elite Stainless Steel. Those all metal guns just have an awsome FEEL to them. But I will say this: the H&K with 12+1 rounds feels pretty sweet!

The wierd thing about the H&K H&K)'>USP is how accurate it is. I took it straight out of the box & was hitting bulls eyes at 10 yards (although you still have to do your part & not jerk the trigger).
