Alright... it looks safe but I feel as though I'm in the crosshairs...

Hopefully below is a picture of my two 1911's - Colt Defender & Taurus PT1911 - and not GDs. So far not much done to these outside of the base package. I added laser grips to the Taurus since it sits on my night stand while I sleep.

Here's my baby. It's a DAO Para SSP LDA (a few more letters and I'll finish the alphabet)!I did the coating myself from Brownells.

It has some Wilson Combatgoodies, including the extended mag. I got the lasermax shortly after purchasing the gun. This is my nighttime carry, "Hairy" neighborhood carry, bedside companion. I'm sending it out to my buddies machine shop shortly to get the front serrations done on the slide, they too, will be black.

You might look into a Para GI Expert. I had a buddy just buy one and it is a very nice entry level 1911. It shoots great, very accurate with P rounds.With a little here and there you could customize it however you wished. And yes, I will always push anything Para!!! He did some shopping around for awhile and picked it up for $499.99.

$499 is not a bad price to get your first 1911. The Taurus PT1911 I have cost around $599, but if you shop around you might find someone that dips below that. I had some issues with the mags it came with, but once I replaced those it has performed flawlessly. I've got a friend that has a PT1911 too, shoots fine with the factory mags. For the price you can't beat it. Sure it doesn't feel like my buddies tricked out Wilson Combat, but mine was 1/10 the cost of his and still goes bang every time.

Has anyone seen the movie "Assassins", with sylvester stallone and antonio banderas ? They are hit men and banderas is sporting these 2 1911 silenced pistols , The silencers are made onto the pistol like an extension of the slide and barrel , same profile etc. anyone familiar with that ?

I dont know but it was very cool looking handgun. Anyway,, where are those pics guys ??????

Here's my Colt. I'm looking to score some Wilson Combat Magazines for it this Christmas. There's nothing wrong with the Colt mags, but you can't beat Wilson Combat 1911 magazines with a stick!

My next 1911 will more than likely be a Springfield Armory GI model, but I'm always looking around, so who knows. Been eyeballling the Sigs a little also, specifically the Blackwater edition 1911;-)

Nice guys... Anyone else out there with a 1911 to post a pic or two of? Come on! Lets see those custom guns, G.I. models and "daily drivers" that I know you'all are pack'in around. There has to be more folks than just us few here who appreciate Ol' slab sides.

p.s. Recoil- the Wilson Combat model 47D magazines are the best magazine ever made for the 1911 (imho). I like the Chip McCormick shooting star mags for training or plinking, but for defensive carry, I will only trust my life to a Wilson mag in my 1911. I have NEVER had one fail in 25 years of using them.... ever. I can't say that about any other magazine.

Donde, hows that .40 Dan Wesson shoot for you? I previously owned a .40 Kimber Pro Carry stainless and had nothing but feeding trouble with it. I think it was the magazines, but I coudn't find one that worked well enough for me trust the gun as a carry peice.

I just had it out yesterday. I ran 50 rounds through it brand new out of the box. Had two fails in the first 2 mags, I think because the gun was a little dry. After that it ran like a top. I cleaned it and oiled it up good last night. I expect it will run flawlessly now that it is a bit broken in and lubed up.

Tac the gun came with the sharkskin grips. Is that what I am seeing on your Sig? If so where did you find them?

Now my oldest step-son has two.....the Taurus PT1911 and what he bought on Christmas eve day.....A Kimber Tac 2

I know they are not mine.....

but I am trying to get him to sell me the PT1911.

I can't resist this just because of all the shit I have got.....I am seeing a lot of hammers back gentleman....RECOIL.....and magazines in....

My PT1911 has a loaded mag, but nothing in the chamber (hammer down) while it sits in my night stand. None in the chamber for safety, loaded for quick acquisition if I have a need 3am.

The Colt Defender, however, is my summer carry piece. As such it is carried SA loaded - meaning one in the chamber with the safety on. It is how 1911's are designed to be carried. It lets you draw and thumb the safety with one hand.

I pulled it out of my holster for the picture.

EDIT => If you do get that PT1911, just make sure to keep up with the cleaning. My one complaint about the piece is the slide is not stainless steel. So if you are too lax with cleaning, you can get rust and tarnish.

On the rare occasion that I CCW my 1911, it's cocked and locked. It's not really suited for CCW because of the sights, but I have carried it a couple times.

If you see the hammer back and a magazine in one of my 1911's, it's because it is LOADED.... I routinely carry these guns and I leave them loaded in my gun safe. If the hammer is down and there is not a magazine in place, then I have not carried that gun in a while and it was moved to one of the hanging hooks on my large gun safe door. On my 1911's, the hammer is a "loaded chamber indicator"; if it's back, the gun is "HOT".... It is a system that has worked for me for over 25 years....

Donde... The grips on my Sig GSR's and my Browlin Arms and Springfield are "Ergo Grips" with their "rough" texture. They are basically plastic grips with what I call "sharks tooth stippling" surface texture. They do not abrade your hand or your clothing, they are uneffected by heat or cold or chemicals and they do not let your hand slip.... even when wet. The best part about them is that they are cheap... I think they sell for under $20 if my memory serves correct. I also like the fact that they make a version for pistols equipped with a mag well extention.
