I have an Army issue model 1911. Serial number puts the date of origin for the frame in late 1918. It has an Ithaca slide. Typical parkerized finish, 90%. My dad purchased this through the NRA/DCM back in the fifties. I have the original grips and two GI mags that came with it. The only thing not box stock is the flat mainspring housing. At some point, my dad had a Pachmyr housing with the rubber checkering put on it.

The throat and feed ramp has been polished for better feeding, and the gun was checked by a gunsmith just a month or so ago.

Any idea on what I can expect? I need enough to buy a new Remington R1.

I'd hang on to that 1911 and shell out the $700 for the Rem R1 when you have the dough.

Hmmm.......Doesn't sound all correct to me, Probably it went thru a rebuild at some point much later(like DCM does)

A 1918 would probably be a Colt with flat mainspring housing and lanyard loop.....Only other companies producing the 1911 around that time frame was Springfield and Remington.

Ithaca production didn't start until 1943 with the 1911A1 series.

All in all still probably a $500-700 Pistol.......If it was all correct maybe a $2000 Pistol.

Just my Humble opinion.

If it's a Mutt like one of mine but shoots well, I'd keep it, and save up or sell something else, maybe. Also, I tend to wait a year or two when something new comes out so they get the bugs out. I know Remington is good as I own a WWII Remington Rand .45 and She's a great shooter. My first Gun a Rem, was a 1935 Model 341 Sportmaster .22 rifle with Peep Sights that my dad bought me used at a pawn shop 43 years ago. I still own it and taught many new shooters shoot with it.

My advice to you............. keep that 1911 .45! After that bogus Arizona ruling and all the Muslim problems we are about to have in this country, you're going to need a reliable handgun. Don't sell it. Besides, when the SHTF and nobody has a job and none of these companies are able to get their money, you'll at least be able to defend yourself.

Stand by to stand by............. it is coming!
