Here's a pic of my Norinco 7.62x39mm, It's a type 56...........To be honest the new up and coming caliber IS the "5.45" in the AK world, Mainly because there's soo much cheap surplus ammo available, But you have to be mindful of the barrel's twist rates - Some that were built here in the U.S. using imported parts kits and American made barrels are noted for "Key Holing"........I don't remember off-hand what the proper twist rate is, But a little online research will tell you.
Without knowing a little more about the rifle in question it "may" or "may not" be worth it........But $300 on a cash N carry deal don't sound bad if it's a good one. (IMHO)
