All the regulars here know that I am ready to pull the trigger on an AK...

Was in town yesterday at one of our 3 gunshops. There was one AK47 left on the wall. It's Yugoslavian according to the salesman, wooden stock and handgrip, etc. Had a 30 round banana mag on it. The asking price is $600.00 bucks. I guess my question is, is the Yugo worth 6 bills?

I saw in another thread that the Yugo is a pretty good model.I do want one though so I can treat it like shit, feed it shit, ride it hard and put it away wet.

Recoil, I don't know muchfirsthand about AKs, but for the price it sounds like a good deal. Like you, I've heard the Yugo is the AK to have, and I've heard to stay away from the Egyptian variants. If I had access to the gun in question, I'd buy it!

Go for it. The Yugo is one of the top AK's to have. I have an M70 AB2 underfolder and I love it. I paid $500 for it 2 years ago. The price on these thinks is climbing fast and they are getting harder and harderto find.This is a quote from an AK web site I found, http://w​ww.ak-47.us/ "The wood and workmanship of these rifles are almost the same as the Romanian but the most important variance is the metal thickness of the stamping. Thanks Donde! I did a little googling and read good things about the Yugo version, but hadn't heard that. Great to know! I'm going tomorrow to pick it up if it's still there. They are closed on Mondays.

I called them Yesterday afternoon and told them to hold it until this afternoon, and they said they would, but low and behold they sold it yesterday. The same dude that I talked to.

There was only one left on the wall.I'm going in there today to see if they still have it. When I was there on Saturday, there were several people in there looking at it besides me, but as of the time I left the shop, it was back on the wall. I hope nobody went in after I left and bought it. I'm kicking myself now for not impulse buying it in the first place...I just wanted to make sure it was a good one.

Alright,​ I posted before that the gun was sold yesterday. Well, not 5 minutes ago, I call the dealership to ask if they'll be getting any more in. Get this...the guy said that the AK was back. The guy who bought it yesterday returned it. Why? I don't know. Gunshop guy wouldn't say. Hmmm.

I'm going to check it out. Also, here's a question for you guys. Since the weapon was called in under that guys name, he returned it, and if I buy it, who's name will it be under? I mean, they didn't call it back in when he returned the thing...

Last thing. It's Romanian, not Yugo as previously thought. Still, from the post above from Donde, it seems they are pretty good makes.

check out this site http://w​ww.jgsales.com/index​.phpthey are getting in some brand new Romanian AK's. Since the one you are looking at is not a Yugo you might consider a new gun from J&G. Might cost you $100 to have it shipped and transfered but then you would have a new gun.

Just checked the shipping cost to Minn. on the J&G site. $15 plus $35 for FFL transfer here plus cost of Romanian AK $489 no sales tax. Total cost about $540. I am thinking about ordering one myself. Damm you Recoil you got me going on this LOL. The site says taking backorders for guns coming in late January. I think this is a pretty good deal, the Ak's around here are drying up. The store where I bought my Yugo 2 years ago has none. Now I wish I would have bought 2 at that time.

So in your opinion, you would pass on the Romanian? And from what it looks like, it's overpriced at 600.00 bucks, before tax, tag and call-in. I'd be looking at 7 bills out the door. That seems steep. I know the market is changing and there's a huge influx of requests for AR's and AK's, but dammit man, an AK47 for 7 bills out the door. I'm having a hard time with it.

When you said you were gettting a Yugo for $600 that sounded good but I would not pay that much fora Romanian. I believe the Romanian will do what you want it to do and if you can get a brand new one from J&G for just over $500 I think that is what I would do. You are right the market is changing. The price on these things is about $100 more than it was a year ago. Things to look for, does it have a threaded barrel so you can change out the flash hider. Will it take the double stack mags. Can you attach a bayonet. I am by no means an expert on this. It might be worth the time to ask some questions on the AK forums. Just my 2cent.

It's settled then. NO-GO on the Romanian for that price. I've got to run into town again today, if he'll take 450.00 for it, I'll buy it. If not, I'll let him get someone else. I think that's what happened to the other guy. He bought it, got it home, did some research and found out things he didn't like...then took it back. The dealer that has it is pretty lenient and will allow unfired returns up to 24 hours later.

My buddy has a Romanian WASR and they're really not that impressive. He traded it for a Taurus .38spl revolver his brother gave him. It functions okay but is pretty crude set-up compared to others.

What about a Century Arms AK for $699??How can you tell which one is made where? Im leaning towards getting an AK, but now Im all confused. LOL

I found this out on the 'net. It may help you find out who made a certain AK. Since I'm not an expert by any means, nor have I ever owned one, I do not know if this is accurate or not. Maybe someone else will chime in.
