Here in Kalifornia the SKS is quite popular. I have a Yugo and a Romanian. My Yugo shoots like crap, but my Romanian Rocks. Anyone else have these rifles?

Have shot a yugo frequently, it seemed to do ok but it had serious magazine issues (aftermarket) in my experience. More of a problem with the mag's than the gun. Broken extractor once too.

This works for a forum for now I guess When the site gets a bit more traffic sks will have its own home.

My dad has had a Chinese SKS for years. Never failed, never choked, always goes bang no matter what he stuffs in the magazine. He speaks quite highly of it. Not a sniper rifle by any means, but accurate enough for him with the low power scope he's got on it.

Said he had a chance to bring one back with him from Vietnam, but for one reason or another didn't get the paperwork through in time.

Too bad he couldn't get a bring back. I have been told there are two kinds of Chinese SKS's. One is made by Norinco and has a stamped reciever the other is Chinese Red Army which has a milled reciever. Other than China, the SKS has been made in Russia,Yugoslavia,Romania,E.Germany and the extremely rare No.Korea and No.Vietnam models. Also just recently, a few Albanian models have shown up, and look very differant from all other SKS's. And last but not least is the Model 86 D that uses detatchable AK mags also Chinese made.

Not to knock your experience; however I have two Yugos with about 1K rounds through each without any feed issues. I mostly use Wolf (the black box stuff), perhaps it's the ammo? Have the rifles been cleaned of all the cosmoline? Usually these Yugos are very reliable.

yupp sks are pretty hard to beat

my yugo will shoot about 1 and 1/2" groups with wolf at 100 yards for about 6 rounds then the barrel gets hot enough and it starts shooting like crap but 6 rounds is enough for deer.

also great for launching tennis balls off the grenade launcher

I have a Yugo and have had no problems at all. Most gun store owners in my area suggest if you are going to purchase an SKS make sure it is a Yugo. I actually purchased a standard red dot today for my Yugo. I can't wait to try it out. I also refinished my stock today. Still waiting for it to dry!

SKS magazine problems? I have never heard of problems with the internal magazine. If you added an external High cap magazine you have changed Mr Simonotov's orginal design and you are asking for trouble. The orginial internal 10 rdmagazine makes for a very handy rifle, espicialy in the shorter carbine. with pratice you can do a fast reload with stripper clips. Want a 30 rd mag? Buy an AK. But the sks is best left as designed.

I did notice one problem my "son-in-law" had with his Norinco. The shell casings had some pretty substantial scrape marks from feeding into the chamber. Probably just needs to file that down a little. The aftermarket mag he bought was total crap. Looks like someone had attached the top part of an SKS mag to an AK mag. The rounds would get hung up so the bolt wouldn't close and when he did get it to fire it put 2 rounds out instead of one.
