alright guys its time for a new scope (my red dot and my scope took a crap on me within two range sessions....i just painted my scope too...)

......oh well, thats what i get for buying cheap optics!!!! ok, the budget is less than 350-400 and i was looking at the Leupold 1.5-4x20 mark AR but i herd good things about the leatherwood/hi-lux 1-4x24 CMR....you guys always seem to point me in the right direction.......so, opinions/suggestions?????

InstructorPyro has experience with the Leupold AR series of scopes. He swears by them. I will always stand behind Leupold quality, as I own a Mark IV for a bolt action and have hunted with VX scopes on several different rifles.

If you can save just a few more dollars, take a look at the Leupold Mark IV CQ/T. It's the cat's ass for variable magnification combined with red dot technology.

Also, an Aimpoint CompM2/base combo is only slightly higher than your budget. That is my setup (CompML2) and IP is going that route for his StagPul setup.

I'd repeat my cheap optics spiel, but it looks like you found out the hard way. I'm glad to see you are going to step it up a notch on the next purchase.

Well I have the Mark 2, which the Mark AR has replaced...it was 650...so I would go that route as for the scope...I know Room will hash me for this, but it has not failed yet...and stood up to the AR-10 and works great on my M-15..

You've sold me on the Burris. BTW, I mounted a Burris Fast Fire on my 12 gauge, so I know they make good stuff. I'm sold on the durability. The reason I prefer Aimpoint over Burris for a tactical carbine is the battery life and a few other points. A shotty technically doesn't really need an optic, so if the optic goes down due to a dead battery, it isn't a big deal. A tactical carbine really demands that the optic not crap out when you need it most. I like that I can leave the Aimpoint on all year and replace the battery once every 12 months with plenty of reserve. The optic is ready to go without messing with the on/off knob. Try that with the Burris! That being said, the Burris is great for what it does, and I'm not knocking it. It's a great alternative if someone needs to save a few hundred bucks. Oh yes, I practice irons just in case!

Big Bro. showed up on the 4th with one of these http://www.nikonhunting.com/riflescopes-m-223.html I REALLY like it, he had the 3-12x with their bdc reticle. I'm getting one in a week or two. Price is about $450.00 a little less if you shop around.

I'm with your Room, I selected the Aimpoint over everything else because of battery life. You just can't beat 5 year battery life without turning it off. Even the JP Enterprises JPoint with it's 5 year battery life, you have to put the cover over it to dim it down when you aren't using it.

The Mark AR series is a great set of rifle scopes calibrated for the 5.56/.223 for BDC. Nothing wrong them and their price ranges are great. If you get one, I suggest the Burris PEPR mount for it. Designed to give you proper eye relief.

Here is the Leupold Mark AR 3-9X40 with Burris PEPR mount (around $400 combined) with a Burris Fast Fire mounted with a Daniel Defense 1 o'clock rail.

the chick is totally hot and has a brain to boot.....Scary

As I said before...I would love to have a Comp 2 or 3, and someday I will...Oh for the record....I envy you guys that have them.....

Cohen, I know there are some deals out there...I just came across a LaRue LT 104 Scope mount with 1'' and 30 mm rings for 165....which is a DAM good deal, but I have to many other irons in the fire right now....
I need to get a program for my puter

and have my eye on a new Nikon scope for my AR-10...not to mention the wife has a list of ''You need to fix this''....Oh and I have to help pay for the new grill the wife bought....she made me discard my old MAN Grill...you know the kind....It can be rebuilt again type.....
but some day I will have the money and find the deal....I will own one...some day....

ok since the topic turned for a moment to the consideration of battery life, i feel it a good time to mention that i have recently purchased a trijicon reflex. that fickin' thing is awesome. no batteries, no on / off switch just pick it up and run it. but as amazing optic as it is i have to agree with everyone, i am a die hard aimpoint user. i will admit i was judgmental about the look of the reflex before i got it but i just remembered my all time favorite saying when it comes to a good running weapons plattform, "FUNCTION BEFORE FASION" that is all...

blue torch told me a local shop had it and said he was on his way there on his bike so i cruised out there and met him and there she was. i asked the guy if he would let it go for 325 and he said no and i just sat there and didnt say anything so he said he would do 350 tax free. what are you about to pay? id trade you for an eotech 517 which can be had for 415$ on ebay ill pay the shipping to make it an even 4 if you want? thats what i originally wanted but couldnt really pass this deal up so i took it figuring i could upgrade. i have a guy right now interestered in trading a 556 for it but id rather you have it.

i bought the leupold 1.5-4x20 last night with a primary arms extended mount...BTW, primary arms shipped my order today (sat.) and they do have good prices you guys should check them out...

so my next question is how do you guys tighten your 1 piece mounts(is there a such a thing as too tight ; how many ft. lbs) do you use lock-tite? etc.

Has anyone tried anything from NcStar? I have a 4x32 on my AR-15 and it's been pretty true. Plus, NcStar has a lifetime warranty.
