Just wondering im doing a budget Build ar, and wanted to buy the upper and then later get charging handle and bolt/carrier later. just wondering how would i go about this with checking head spacethis forum rocks and thanks for the welcome

Welcome aboard. To check head space there are two ways to go about it... You can buy a set of Go, NoGo, Field gauges and use them according to directions. Or, you can pick up a precision mic from RCBS and get an actual meaurement.

this is what im getting from black thore products. AR15 / M16 A3 Upper half with 16" M4 contour barrel and A3 Upper receiver. Item # AR-UHM4A3. This 5.56mm cal barrel is 16" long, threaded the standard 1/2 x 28 tpi, and has an A2 flash hider with the correct crush washer. The barrel has a forged A2 front sight base with bayonet lug, not the cheaper cast front sight base which can break. It sports M4 contour and length handguards with full heat shields, and a correctly sized gas port for reliable function in full or semi auto. The barrel is machined from chrome-moly, high vanadium steel and hardened to a U.S. government Mil-spec of Rc 26-32. The barrel, and all external steel parts, are manganese phosphate finished IAW 5.3.1.2 of Mil-STD-171, the U. S. government's recommended protective finish for steel. This finish not only looks great, it affords complete corrosion protection. These barrels are of Mil-spec M4 contour (.750 under the front sight base) complete with the M203 groove in the front. This contour is the perfect balance between light weight, heat dissipation, and accuracy. The barrel is button rifled with 6 grooves, right hand, 1 / 9"; twist. The 1/9" twist is best because it handles the widest variety of ammunition and bullet weights. The barrel is mounted on a FORGED A3 upper receiver with built in Mil-spec M1913 Picatinny accessory rail, made from certified 7075T6.511 alloy forgings, hardcoat anodized IAW Mil Spec A8625, Type III, Class II, black per No. 37038, Table IX with nickel acetate seal, as per the Mil-spec. The upper features a forward assist and hinged ejection port cover. This upper receiver is complete less bolt/carrier assembly and charging handle. The upper is fully assembled, headspaced, and ready for action. The upper is fully assembled. Drop in your bolt/carrier and charging handle, check headspace and let her rip!

If your barrel is new, you shouldn't even be thinking about headspace. That really doesn't become an issue until after many rounds. If your barrel isn't new then I might just run it by a gunsmith and let him check it.

We were posting at the same time. When I buy complete uppers I usually buy direct from the manufacture and they are usually test fired. Stag test fires and zeros before sending them out.

and its only 299.00 so when im done ill have a ar15 for under 600 cause my lower was only 89 bucks and the parts kit was free and a2 stock was free to so and bolt/carrier is only 110.00 so im stocked

for my lower i went with lar grizzly offlist lower and im from baldwin park pyro and its all new im not sure on who makes the upper but it is from blackthore products and the have like 500 in stock with next day shipping so im just waiting for christmas bonus to come in

Bummer, I was hoping that you were closer to me. I need more AR shooters out on my range. You're about 5 hours south of me. But, if you want a great get away weekend sometime, let me know. Yosemite is in my back yard and I am the range master of a pretty cool range. And,I know where you can get a screaming deal on a hotel room for a weekend.
