O.K.
Have a bench rest AR-15 with scope for accurate shooting. I recently placed a Leupold on it and only lack a good trigger. (I have a regular ar trigger)

QUESTION. Chip McCormick or Timney Trigger. which to get.
Pros and Cons between the two and please have owned and used one or both.

I've used and own both and I prefer the JP Fire Control Modules. JP even has an EZ Trigger setup as well. I've tried several triggers over the years of AR ownership and have now put JP triggers in all of mine.

I sent my sons' and my brothers triggers in to Bill Springfield. That was about a year ago, when he charged $35 to work his magic on. The triggers are now as sweet as my RRA two stage trigger. He took about 2 days and 2 days to ship each way.
Shipping was $7 for both triggers. I think you can go to Bill Springfield online.. not sure if it is .com or what? Yes, just looked it up and it is www.TriggerWork.net. We were more than satisfied or I would not have given this advice. One of the other guys on here told me about it. I will have all my triggers done that need it there from now on.

Also, I am looking for something light. That guy only goes to 2.5lbs. That is light for somethings but not bench rest shooting, looking for 1 or 1.5LBS trigger.
Anyone know anything?

Some of you trolls suprise me.........I can get a 4oz to 3.5 LB trigger from Cabelas....."If I wanted one"

Have you guys ever stroked a 14oz trigger ??? Or one you coudn't even measure ???

14oz? that sounds like an accident waiting to happen lol.

I second JP enterprises - just the reduced power trigger kit can work wonders on some guns. Not consistent gun to gun so results vary. I've got one that it dropped to about 3.8 - 4 (*shrug, okay*) and one that it dropped to about 2.5 with the smoothest break possible, it's a dream (disclaimer, I got lucky, it doesn't usually work that well). I do polish surfaces so it's not as simple as just popping a spring in but no other parts replaced.

Nope that wasn't a typeO........It was on an Anschutz .22LR, You didn't need a target.......Just fire the first shot then the hole WAS the target(LOL).

I fired an old ornate Mauser in 7mm Mag with set trigger......Now that was scary, Couldn't even judge the break on that one !!! Once you touched the trigger or breathed it went !!!

Cabelas offers Rifle Basix Triggers that they advertise as being adjustable down to 2oz for some models......Have to wonder if that IS a typeO ??? They also offer a Timney for the AR that'll get you down to 3Lbs.

My experience with a Bill Springfield trigger job wasn't so great, I must be the only one cause forums rave about him.......I sent him an HK91/G3 Trigger pack and he was "Supposed" to remove most of creep and get it down to a managable 4 1/2 Lbs.....Well long story short it wouldn't drop the hammer 50% of the time without pushing forward on the trigger to get the proper sear engagement.....I sent it to him TWICE and he was never able to correct the problem.......In frustration I just got rid of it.

I am with you Max. I have felt one LBS triggers and they are great. I have 4 different ars for different things. I figure I can try to get one done from bill and if I dont like it that much I wont be out much.

#One ar is scope mounted for bench rest only. So yeah about 1lbs or less is great on that one.

#Two ar is a SBR that has way to hard of a pull. I guess that would be much better as a 2.5 or 3lbs

#Three ar is a DCM type so that one would be different as well.

#Four is a XM15 in cammo that can be used to hunt with but lets face it I only hunt paper with it.

So yes, one extremly light would be a great one for #1

Well on this one I use a Bushmaster 2 Stage Comp Trigger, Adjusted properly it allows for the 1st stage to be DCM legal 3 1/2 Lbs, Then the 2nd Stage is 1 Lb Let Off......That or a similar trigger like the Jard you posted could be your options for #1 and 3.

You really need to figure out what you want in a Trigger : Adjustable Vs Non-Adjustable and a 2 Stage Vs a 1 Stage, A drop in Vs a Fire control group you install and adjust.

By all accounts the JP Triggers mentioned above come highly recommended by two of our board members......That's really all I know about triggers in general - My other 3 AR's are stock units.

When I swapped out my fire control with the JP Enterprises kit (minus the speed hammer), I took a 7.5 lb pull down to 3.5 lbs. The results were fantastic. The kit was stupid simple and my off hand groups, especially during movement exercises, have shrunk. The trigger feels more like a bolt action trigger now. There is virtually no creep which is what I told my smith to go for. The break is clean and crisp, and it resets nicely. I considered a Timney drop in, but at the time the price difference between Timney and JP was about $75. InstructorPyro talked me into the JP and I took his advice. The results were better than expected. I thought about sending my fire control group to Bill, but I've heard good and bad about it. If it's off, there's no way to 'fix it back'. I don't know anything about Chip's triggers.

I want a single stage setup. Also, I don't care if it is a drop in unit or a fire control system as long as it is not a pain to adjust.
All in all I am leaning towards the Timney, as light as I can buy after all the rifle is for bench rest shooting.
