The only experiences I have had with H&K's is from my job, and my Sheriff here gives us good stuff to work with.
My first department issued weapon was an H&K USP Expert in .40 caliber S&W. Great shooting weapon, extremely accurate, smooth recoil(because of the double spring on the guide rod), and it carried 16 rounds(17 with one in the chamber). I loved it except for one thing: it weighed a ton. It was like carrying a boat anchor on my hip, and the weight started causing me problems on my hip and lower back.
I then asked for a change of weapon, and I was issued another H&K, a USP Compact in .40 caliber S&W. Shorter barrel, more felt recoil, but nearly as accurate and just as reliable. And a whole lot more comfortable to carry for 10-12 hours a day on my hip, along with all of the other crap I have to carry, as in a small flashlight, a MaCom radio, 2 sets of handcuffs, pepper spray, Taser & reload cartridge, non-latex gloves, and 2 magazines for reload for the H&K, in addition to the heavy ass genuine leather belt they issue to us. Of all the gear they give us, the only real gripe I have now is about the leather. If I could, I would just as soon wear nylon, as it cleans up better, it wears better, and it is certaily a lot lighter in regards to weight.
I do not own one personally, but I've had no problems, operationally speaking, with either H&K I've been issued. Fine handguns, easy to maintain, easy to shoot, accurate and reliable.
