alright as the title says you've probably herd this before!

i'm gettin married and my wedding gift is a pistol. well, what should i get?
i need something thats UNDER say $850 caliber MUST be larger than 9mm.
also i would prefer a pistol that is SA/DA or has a 'de-cocker'
what say you all?

any opinions/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have a walther p99 in .40 S&W and I really enjoy it. It is my primary carry pistol.

It handles very well and it's magazine well is very well suited for tactical reloading. It has a decocker.

If it's for the future Mrs., I would submit that a Sig P225 in 9mm would meet all of your criteria. My wife LOVES hers and shoots it like it was an extention of her arm. A newer, more costly alternative to the P225 would be the P239 in 9mm, .40 S&W or .357 Sig. (9 is the cheapest to shoot).

Ditto, on the congrats.

Really don't have much experience in the area of autos. As my name implies, I like revolvers. But I can give you some guidance what NOT to get. Of course you can read about the troubles I've had with my Taurus P1911 elsewhere in this forum, but then that doesn't fill your requirement for SA/DA with decocking lever.

The only auto of that type I've owned was a CZ 75 P-07 Duty. The gun was a jam master. Even after a good cleaning, and a suitable break in period, I was perpetually having to clear it. It was also prone to misfires, regardless of ammo type. The controls were poorly placed. That is, the slide release was so far forward that I couldn't thumb it while holding the gun by the grip. It became a two handed operation. And the magazines were really tight. Difficult to insert, and when the magazine release was pressed, it would not drop out. I had to practically pry them out. That gun didn't stay around long. And it reaffirmed my continuing taste for wheel guns. Gotta love em. Point, squeeze, bang.

i love love love th xd line of pistols. ive shot them in .45,.40 and 9mm and all of the above were sure winners. springfield makes great guns there is no question on that one.

first off thanks on the congratulations!

the pistol would be for both of us; primarily for me to take to the range and for her second choice for home defense..... the 12Ga is first.

I really like the P99, reason is i have a P22 and i'm very comfortable with the position of the slide release, and mag release. i also just like how it sits in my hand..

i also like the XD line of pistols i just cant have the 'good' mags there in california, oh, i mean commie-fornia because as we all know a 19 rnd mag makes you a violent killer, and much more likely to rob a 7-11 or bank.

i also have a p22 that i absolutely love to death but have never shot a p99 i did look at the pps walther makes but went with the subcompact xd40 because i loved my xd.45 so much.

Well with that budget, and the desire for a DA/SA with decocker, the Beretta 92fs is a popular option that would leave you with a lot of money to spare. and meets your three requirements. It's also nearly identical to the military M9 which appeals to a lot of active duty and veterans from recent conflicts.

XD & glock are good options if you don't mind striker fired DAO (no decocker, but hammerless) and would also leave you with money to spare.

I can vouch for the 92 FS, I have owned two of them, for a 9mm, they can't be beat, I think. They do have also the 96A1 and the 92A1 which have a rail on the bottom to mount stuff.....hope this works...

92 SERIES

give it a look see....the 96A1 is a 40 Smith.
