Dallas Morning News this AM:(You can't make this stuff up)
Nathan Wayne Pugh, out of prison for just a year on a charge of aggravated robbery, walked into a Wells Fargo Bank, approached a teller with a Whataburger sack in his hand and told the teller he wanted to "make a withdrawal", handing her a scrap of paper with the message, "This is not a bag of food, it is a bom, put money in an envelope and do not make a move til after I have left for ten minutes."
The teller, a new employee according to police, calmly told Pugh she needed identification in order to give him money. He handed her his Wells Fargo debit card. The teller asked him how much he wanted and he replied "two thousand". The teller told him to receive that much money she would need a second form of
ID, and he handed her his Texas
ID card, with his name on it.
The teller took the card, pressed the silent alarm and told Pugh she only had $900 in her drawer and would have to go to the back of the bank to get more money. Pugh took the $900, tucked it into his shirt pocket but remembered to get his debit card and
ID back. As he turned around, he saw uniformed Dallas police officers at the entrance and decided he would take a woman carrying a child as hostage, put a choke hold on her, told her to put down the child or he would kill her. The woman decided to fight back and wrestled Pugh, who is 5 feet 6 inches tall, to the floor. The paper didn't indicate if she did this still holding the baby or not. Officers arrested him. Pugh is in Seagoville Federal Prison East of Dallas.
Pugh and his attorney turned down an interview.
I would like to nominate Nathan Wayne Pugh for the
Darwin Award even though he survived his experience.
