Nothing new really. Look up the extinct project Carnivore and the replacement Narus Insight. While Clinton is the one who started Carnivore, and Obama has his fingers in some 'kill switch' for the Internet, I still think Bush won the trophy on privacy invasion with the Patriot Act and the switch to Narus which wasn't as limited as Carnivore. My 2 thousands worth any way(inflation is a bitch).
Oh, and
PA aside, take a look at the FISA Amendments Act. It gave retroactive immunity to companies with past FISA infractions (mainly the Hepting vs. AT&T case where AT&T was sued by California for spying on all US citizens whose traffic went through AT&T routers in San Diego).
So yea, Obama is a retard that needs to quit, but he has done much less than Bush has for violating privacy rights on the Internet.
EDIT => Here is one interesting excerpt about Narus... and realize this is in real time, no delay or days of processing.
Normalization, Correlation, Aggregation and Analysis provide a model of user, element, protocol, application and network behaviors, in real-time. That is it can track individual users, monitor which applications they are using (e.g. web browsers, instant messaging applications, email) and what they are doing with those applications (e.g. which web sites they have visited, what they have written in their emails/IM conversations), and see how users' activities are connected to each other (e.g. compiling lists of people who visit a certain type of web site or use certain words or phrases in their emails).
