That aircraft is a C-1A Trader. It bore the role of the first COD (Carrier Onboard Delivery) aircraft for the Navy. If was operational from the 50's thru the 70's. I'd say that footage was from the 50's or 60's. The C-1 Trader was replaced by C-2 Greyhound in the 80's.

The carrier in question is USS TICONDEROGA (CV 14), and she was decommed in 1973, so that puts a maximum end-date on the video.

Now Cohen, you know I am a pilot, and yes, I know a lot about planes. I've been around aircraft my entire life and have flown them for the last 22 years. Even though I knew it was a Trader, I did have to look up the details about it.

We had a tail-hook bust on a COD during landing. Those don't sink very easy. Had to take the machine guns (I wasn't a gunners mate) to get it to sink. They are a life saver, if someone needed emergency medical that was the way out.

The C-130 vids were great. That would have given the flight deck crew a pucker. Looked like he caught #2 wire. Good landing.

Great video. Loved flight ops.
