I've studied aviation, wartime aviation to be exact, for the majority of my life. I have a library of books pertaining to the subject. I'm away from home at the moment, but made a call to the better half and asked her to pull out a certain volume that would clear up the mis-captioned pictures. There are others in that presentation, but nothing really worth noting. I love studying old photos from
WWII that have planes in them. There is so much history there that you could tell a story from every photo. It tickles me that the Army Air Corps P-51 made it to the Pacific theater late in the war. It was one bad ass fighter, and was even king to the Corsairs that dominated the aerial battles over the islands. It doesn't get much play because the Navy/Marines dominated the Pacific theater, and the Army
AC bombers and fighters take second fiddle to the Hellcats, Corsairs, and Dauntless' of the Navy and Marine Corps. The Marine Corsairs launched ground attacks on enemy outposts from advanced island bases making the island leap frog easier on the Marines on the ground. The long range escort of the bombers by the Mustangs made reaching Japan a reality.
