While I tip my hat to any serviceman, past or present, I give an extra tip to the medics. Many a soldier lived to return home, who wouldn't have without these people. And all too often they do what they do at great personal risk, frequently losing their own lives. I worked with a guy who was severely wounded in Nam. He took a hit that clipped a main artery. A medic put his hand in the wound and pinched the artery shut, then shielded the soldiers body with his own until more help arrived. Without his actions, the soldier would have died in very short order. You can't say enough good about such people. The fact that when he returned home, he was spit on and called a 'Baby killer', makes me want to shoot someone.
