I just turned 21 this morning and purchased a new 4th Generation Glock 22. So far I am very happy with the overall feel of the gun and the new rough textured frame.. Wont know for sure till I take it to the range this weekend though.

Nice piece. When I got my gunsmithing course from AGI, it included a number of bonus videos. One of them is entitled 'How to make a Glock rock'. I may just be forced to buy a Glock, just to try play with it.

Glock 22 is an awesome pistol.

I ran over 5000 rounds thru one when I was doing IDPA and it still shot like brand new. There are also after market things you can do to it to improve accuracy like ported barrels and tritium sights.

You will love this pistol. It shoots wonderfully.

Thanks guys.. I am glad to finally be a Glock owner. I always knew that I would buy a Glock first and last week I picked up the Glock Autopistols magazine and read the write-up on the Gen4. Two days later I went into the local gun shop to see if he had any.. unfortunately he didn't but made a few phone calls and ordered this one for me.

To answer your question LoneRanger,the shop owner let me put a deposit down on the gun when he ordered it so that started my 3 day waiting period and would enable me to pick it up as soon as I legally could.. actually waited 6 LONG DAYS!

Just wondering here... I would love to get into some competition shooting and briefly skimmed through the pamphlet Glock includes with their guns about the GSSF matches.(Glock Shooting Sports Foundation) Has anybody joined this and shot in their matches? If not is there something else I could try? I know SPLAT you mentioned you ran in the IDPA.

Congrats! I've said this before here, but Glocks are tougher than a hog's nose andmore durable than Philippino poon-tang! You can't wear 'em out. I have 2 and although I love other manufacturer's models, well...you get the pic.

CHeck your local ranges for IDPA stuff.

If you see any local classes on defensive pistol, take them all. If you are serious about IDPA, you need to train ALLOT.

Buy a shot timer and start working. Most of the training can be done unloaded at home practicing presentations and tactical reloads. You need a good foundation in drawing from concealment practicing things correctly and the speed will come.

I had my time for double tap to sternum and one to the head down to 1.12 seconds consistently (from concealment) and many times in the high .90s. I got frustrated because I would also consistently come in 5th or 6th in our local IDPA practice matches. I have seen guys do it with times like .55 and .68.

The guys at the top in IDPA shoot VERY FAST and VERY ACCURATE. It is really tough competition. A lot of fun though. They run courses that replicate situations where you will have to use your defensive pistol skills. Lots of shooting and moving to cover and tactical reloads where you retain the spent magazine.

Plan on shooting a minimum of a 1000 rounds a week when you are getting started and 300 to 500 after you get 'good'. Get some instruction before you start practicing so you don't waste your time and practice bad habits. It's like golf, if you get a bad muscle memory because you were taught improperly in the beginning, it takes a long time to unlearn bad habits. Some bad habits with drawing from concealment can cause you to shoot yourself. It is not something to be taken lightly.

Thats good to know Mad Max... are there any good shooting ranges down there where your at? I live up by Ocala... so I am not too far from you.

Thanks again SPLAT. I may have gotten a little ahead of myself though.That sounds great but I don't have nearly the time nor the funds for that volume of shooting yet.. I will look into it though. It seems like a good place for me to start is going to be to get some weapons training. So I am going to start looking for training courses for both my handgun as well as my AR.

Hey All, Newbie 1st post for Hemi. Go back to GSSF they have a member purchase program. I joined for $35 1 year which entitled me a one Glock purchase per year of membership. I live in Centreville Va. went to neighboring town Herndon and picked up a Gen4 19 $448 {and change} out the door. They also offer a Armorer Course {check for where and when} for $150 a full day 8-5. Well worth it. Pass the course and you can purchase 2 Glocks per year for LE pricing. Of course the catch is having a local host for course and a gun shop that participates for either purchase with GSSF.As of now only 200 or so shops participate. The phone number on the site should put you in touch with Donna Bouchard for any and all info. They will not post or e-mail the gun shops. Tell her where you are and hopefully she give you a local shop or shops. You can also go to online shops that participate and order a Glock that way. To get an eyeful Ed's Public Safety.com in GA has alot of info and supports the GSSF purchase program. Just a Thought not a Sermon. HHEHE. Good luck. P.S. Huge customer support at all matches.
