Ha, I was just getting ready to answer the question, ya beat me to it. That guys got some talent. I also read he recently got a confirmed kill at 1,016 yards. Something around that anyways. It's a pretty cool round.

I was pretty sure on the scope as well... I have considered having one built for my .300 Ultra at the custom shop from Leupold. I was guessing the rifle was a custom build in possibly a Weatherby or other magnum. The .30-378 is a great long distance thumper. I have seen some "beyond belief" videos where they are shooting a similar set up.

At 1000 kill is one heck of a feat. I know one guy who hunts elk with a bolt .50 BMG and he has a kill at just short of 900. I think that is over doing it a bit, but he seams to find it entertaining... The thought of having to drag a 20 pound rifle up a mountain hasn't sounded fun to me since I was 18 years old and dragging my M60 around while surrounded by 30 of my closest "friends". As a matter of fact.... It didn't sound fun then either... but at least the Government was paying for the ammo...

He shoots hand loads he makes up. It pretty much just punches a fist sized hole through anything he hits with it. He usually aims for the lung area, in order to prevent destroying large amounts of meat. I would hate to see what he would do if he took a high shoulder shot....

At least you don't have to track it down, quick kill. To gut it you would just have to cut it open and let it drain. I have never heard of someone hunting with a 50 so that's pretty cool.
