I want an EOTech. I already have one but it is several years old. I want a new one. Who can tell me about personal experiences with the new models. Which way should I go? My current model doesn't even have an 'auto off' feature. So, does anyone have any good info for me?

Be sure and get one that uses 'AA' batteries. The ones that use the camera batteries are prone to 'drain down' when it's cold weather.

I have two Eotechs. I have the new 557 with bullet drop compensator. I have yet to check the compensator against my loads. supposed to range out to 600 yards with 62 gr ammo. I really like the Eotech versus the aimpoint for personal taste. I think you will find it very fast. The lithium AA batteries DO drain very fast in cold weather even when the unit is off. The batteries last a long time though when unit is warm. I use regular AA's when it is cold out.

No I'm not getting rid of the one that I have, I want another one. The one that I have now is already attached (by relationship) to another rifle. I would have serious jealously problems between two different rifles sharing one optic. My rifles do not like to share.

Ranger, I have been waiting for someone to come across that has one, how, really does it compare to the rest of them....my beef with it is that I don't think it will fit in my LaRue mount....and I don't think they have made one yet.....

Sorry IP.....if your rifles do not share.....how do you shoot both of them....I know women don't like to share (most of them) but I thought guns where above that....LOL

I looked at the Leupold Mk-IV Prismatic scopes when I was in the market. Nice piece of gear, but the Aimpoint Comp series is a better kit. The Prismatic isn't as durable as the EOTechs, Trijicon ACOGs, and Aimpoints. In the Leupold, you have to jump up to the Mk-IV CQ/T to get into the same category as Aimpoint and EOTech. The CQ/T isn't a bad choice though. It give you variable magnification in a tough as nails package. However, for those who fear tube red dots and worry that they impede quick target acquisition, the Aimpoint is less claustrophobic. I'd put the CQ/T in the same box with the Comp series and the EOTech's, and I'd put the Prismatic with the likes of Burris, all be it has better glass than Burris.

Ultimately, I went with the Aimpoint CompML2 with a separate magnifier. It's a simpler design than having built in variable magnification (more rugged), and it's lighter for 90% of what a CQB rifle needs (meaning no magnification 90% of the time). EOTech and their magnifier was my second choice, followed by the Leupold MkIV CQ/T, and then the Trijicon ACOG. EOTech is proud of that huge magnifier, but Aimpoint's is smaller and more affordable. Of course, you can mix and match an EO with an AP magnifier with the right mount.

Hey Room, can you post up that picture of yours? I know it's on this site somewhere but I don't feel like hunting for it. Besides this would be an appropriate location for it as well.

I'm considering the ML2 now. The reason that I was wanting to go with another EOTech 512 was because I could get it for less than $400. But I can probably get the ML2 for not much more. Midway has then for around $440.

I have an Eotech Xps2-2. Its the shorter new version with the tranverse mounted 'A-123' battery. The reticule is a 65moa ring with two 1moa dots. the center dot is your 30yd/200yd zero and the lower is your 300 yard zero. the top of the 65moa ring is for under 25yd engagement(put the mark at the top of the ring on a humans sillouette's head and you will put a bullet near the heart) The mark at the bottom of the 65moa ring is for 600 yard zero. All this being based on 62 grain milspec ammo in 5.56mm. It has an 4hour auto off or a 8 hour auto off depending on which button you choose to turn it on with. (buttons meaning the two that adjust intnsity of the light projection). The only thing I am not too keen on is how 'pixilated' the 65moa ring is, however I only notice it when I am consentrating on it, it has not bothered me while shooting. As far as longevity and battery life I cannot say as I have not owned it long enough yet. I would however purchase another one if I were to be needing another red dot.

We're not talking about the same scope. This one is a non magnifying
red dot w/ etched glass that gives a sight picture even in the unlikely
event of battery failure. I find it's the closest thing to iron sights for durability
and a crystal clear sight picture, much sharper than my EO 512
