I'm with Max. I've used Yukons and ATNs in the field and the latter during flying. The quality of the ATNs is much higher. Might I suggest looking at the slightly more expensive Mk410 over the Mk390. You get 1-5x instead of 1-4x magnification and 108mm vs 90mm for a lot more light collection. You will be able to hunt at longer ranges with the Mk410. The
IR illuminators that come with the ATNs are great accessories, but don't expect them to work well at hunting ranges. A trick used in setting up a secure area is to mount permanent
IR illuminators at the perimeter. This gives the guys wearing NVA a serious advantage in target acquisition. While this isn't practical in hunting applications, unless you are hunting in your back yard, the small
IR illuminator on the device will only work out to the distance of a small flashlight and has a narrower beam angle than the FOV of the scope. The best way to use a GEN1 is to utilize a starry moonlit night, because it will under-perform in complete darkness at all but the closest ranges, even with the
IR illuminator. That being said, GEN1 prices are obtainable. Buy the Mk410 now and then save some money. Sell the Mk410 when you have the difference towards a GEN2+
ATN Trident which is a great varmint NVA scope.
