So my neighbor has a Marlin Model 60 that he wants $125 for.

Looks like it's in very good shape. He says it has the 17-round tube on it.

i know the marlin my older brother bought was a piece of shit and so was his buddys. they both were the same model but i dont know one it was.

My dad and I have had Those model 60's for most of our lives, Even back when they called them Glenfield.....No better or worse than anything else out there, We've shot many a squirrel from the pecan tree with them and some did hold as many as 15-17 rounds before the AWB - My dad swears by them, And bought another one not long ago for about $125.

My new .22 LR collecting passion is the Nylon 66's.....

MY grandpa gave me an old "apache" nylon 66 that is black with stainless...almost mint condition from early-id 60's. Dead accurate and a joy to shoott.

I've got the one in "Mohawk Brown" almost minty......There's a 3 letter code around the rear site that tells the date of Mfr(AGD).....Mine's a pre '67 with no serial #.....The code put Mfr in March 1960, Roughly a year or so after they started making them, It's the most common model found - But still worth 3 times what I paid(LOL).

Nice Hijack guys.... (I have two nylon 66's myself, both brown, and I love them.)

Bishop... I couldn't count how many rounds of .22 I put through my Marlin model 60 when I was growing up, but I would guess the figure numbered in the 10's of thousands... They are a good gun that will take alot of abuse and usually keep on ticking with a little oil and an occasional blast of brake cleaner... $125 for a used one, in great condition is.. a little high in these parts.. you can usually pick them up new at Walmart or Cabelas for a few dollars more than that. I doubt seriously that I would pay more than $100 for one that was mint.

Just my dos centavos....

I think after the AWB 1994 Marlin was forced to limit the tube capacity to 10 rounds.....But not sure they changed back to the longer tube holding 17 after the sunset. So maybe it's worth a little more if that being the case ???

I'd go to WalMart and check one out to see, And get an idea what a new one costs.

Well, I still haven't made a decision on whether I'll eventually get it, but I really don't need it right at them oment. I've got a 10/22 and the M&P, so I'm really pretty well off for .22's.

Thing that is making me curious about it, really, is that magazine tube. The guy doesn't know much about guns, but he's dead set on that being the 17-round tube ... but the serial number decodes as a 1992 manufacture date. (First two digits are 08, and you figure DOM by subtracting the first two digits from 100, for the guns without a letter prefix.) Since they stopped putting the 17 round tube on it in the 80's ... this makes no sense.
