I love my Ruger Mark II

it is unbelievably accurate, and it's the least pick gun I have ever had when it comes to ammo.She just as good as when it was brand new. Who else loves their Rugers?

I bought my wife a MkIII a couple years ago. It's a sweet shooter but a pain in the ass to clean!

She carries it in her SUV. I'll have to get a pic of it soon to post up. Thanks for sharing.

I agree it is ridiculous to disassemble, after a while I got really good at it. Its accuracy and reliability makes up for it to me though.

I hear ya. I've never been one to let something mechanical beat me, but the final steps in re-assembly kicked my ass so after I got it back together, I vowed to not disassemble it again. Now I just use PowderBlaster on it, douche it out really well, wipe down, relube and put it away.

Oh, Ruger's manual that comes with it was written by a crack-head from Greece. It may well have been in Greek, I couldn't understand the rubbish and the jackass that wrote it had never held a pistol in his life...much less the Ruger he was writing about.

LOL ya I tossed that in the garbage as soon as I tried using it. I found that if you held the manual upside down and then read it backwards it made more sense.

Ive had to field strip and reassemble a mark I, II, and III by far, and they all suck. Improvements my a$$. The worse of the three is the Mark III with the magazine safety. Had the worst issues with it. Mark one and two are difficult, mark one is a little worse, but once you get the hang of how to position it for that little swinging lever on the mainspring housing it comes together okay. Still, I find myself having to double check online guides every time I have to strip any of them down... and that has been many times now.

I tried breaking down my dads MKIII 22/45 recently with him and it was much worse than my MKII.

Yep, the one I'm talking about is my wife's MkIII. I had to watch a dude on youtube do it...I must have rewound the video 30 times before I got it. What a PITA! Never again my friends, never again!

Don't you love it when something screws up and the bolt locks up.. magazine is inserted, gun is uncharged, mainspring is locked close and bolt wont move more than a 1/4". I'm still not sure how the hell the one I was working on came unstuck. IMO something to do with that magazine safety makes the reassembly unpredictable, on a platform where reassembly is already a very technical detail. In reality, taking them down isn't too much of a hassle. It's one of "those" firearms though where once you have it apart, good luck getting it back together.

Although admittedly, I've had more fun with other platforms before. I've only disassembled a M1-carbine bolt once. Next time, I'll get the stinking tool for that as I don't have the ability to grow a third hand.

I've had my Mark II with 6" barrel for over twenty years and had many fun days plinking, shooting falling plates with an over-the-receiver red dot scope, and generally having fun. It is an extremely accurate pistol and will typically fire 100 rounds to work on felt trigger pressure before I pull out the Glock or Colt just .

I was chuckling to myself at folks who were groaning about cleaning the Mark II and since I have't shot or handle the the litte jewel in a while decided to show myself how easy it was to reassemble. SHITE! It took me 30 minutes to get eveything just right and proper function. Dang, I aplogize.

Since I have all day tomorrow, and it's too cold to go to the range,I think I'll give it a good cleaning.

I have seen an after market assembly that you install in place of the bolt

retainer piece that allows you to remove the bolt without all the fun and

games that you have said. Don't remember who makes it, but it really

works well. Can't remember the cost on it either (no I don't have one for

mine) but do agree it is a pita to clean and reassemby.

Please do! I'd be willing to pay good money for a little convenience with that thing.

Of course, 'Gunblaster' is cheap and nowdays I just douche it out, dry and oil it back up, wiping where I can reach with a q-tip.

Used to own a MKIII. Great gun. Reliable. Shot anything. Accurate as hell. Got rid of it simply because it was a horror story to take down and reassemble.
