I consider myself pretty well rounded in the world of handguns, but I have a few that I gravitate too and am a serious fan of, one of those is the Sig family of pistols.... Anyone else out there a fan of the Sig pistols?

I currently own a P-220 .45 two tone, a P225 9mm, a P226 9mm, a P250 9mm (compact) and a Stainless GSR .45 and a Blue GSR .45. And my departmentally issued duty gun is a P220R with a surefire X300 light mounted and Crimson Trace laser grips.

I am a huge Sig fan myself. I only have one, the P229 in .40 S&W, but it is my favorite, by far.

When I bought it I had the "short reach" trigger put in it, as I have a big hand but short fingers. It fits my hand perfectly. And it is very comfortable to carry. And extremely accurate!

Now, my agency went to H&K's for duty use, so I carry the USP Compact in .40 S&W both on and off duty carry now, but I still carry my Sig at times. Since my agency did this, I carry that H&K both on and off duty. I'm authorized, so what the heck. It's their weapon, so if I were to become involved in a shooting, either on duty or off duty, I don't lose anything. The H&K shoots well too, but I still love my Sig.

The one and only complaint I have about the Sig is that it seems to 'drink' any lubricant I use on the rails/slide. And I'm not the only one I've heard with that note. Do you find this with any of your Sig's as well? I'd be interested to know.

As of this post, and for quite some time now, I use Militec-1 as my primary lubricant on all of my personal firearms. It works quite well for my needs, and if the troops in the sandbox endorse it I know it's good stuff.

None of my personal guns go through oil like you are talking about, but my duty gun, which is in an open bottom Safariland holster, in the heat, gets dry in a hurry. I usually have to oil it once a week. I treat all of my firearms with Miltec-1 during the break in period and sometimes continue with it, but I have access to Mpro-7 for free at work and use it pretty frequently for most of my "post-Miltec-1 treatment" needs.

I have the same issue with hand size/trigger reach that you spoke of and have installed the short triggers on all of my Sigs, except the P250. With its narrower polymer frame, I don't have the trigger reach issues that I have with most other double stack guns. I don't own a .40 cal. Sig, but hope to change that with a conversion kit for the P250.

I like the P229, but have never ran into a situation where I ended up with a decent enough deal on one to take it home.

I have been a factory trained Sig armorer for about 10 years now and have realy come to respect the abuse and neglect that the Sigs can endure and keep on running. They don't like to work dry, but they will shoot dirty....(kinda like an AR in that regard).

The heat and humidity here in southwest Florida may be the cause of the lubricants drying up, and I had not even thought about that aspect. Good point.

I love my Sig P229. I clean it and lube it at least once every couple of weeks or so since I don't carry it as much since my agency went to the H&K USP Compact. It fits my hand perfectly, the sight picture is always good, and it is by far the most accurate handgun I've ever owned. The whole thing about it is that it fits in my hand perfectly, no fiddling around or adjusting to get it in my hand "just right". Once I put my hand on the grip and pull it from the holster it is exactly where it should be in my hand.

As far as the lube is concerned, I have used Militec-1 religiously since I learned of it around 2003 or so. Don't know anything about the lube you use, I've heard of it but never seen it around here. Question: who makes it, and how can I get a sample to test it one one or two of my handguns? If it's good stuff, and I'm sure it is if you use it then I'd consider trying it out. That said, I do really like Militec-1 though. Very good stuff.

I have the same consistant fit with my P220 that you have with your P229. With the short trigger installed, the gun just fits my hand perfectly.

As for the lube, MPro-7 is produced here in Phoenix and distributed by Windfall Distribution. Their lube is a a good oil, but does not have the long term embedding qualities that Militec-1 has. Originally MPro-7 was only a cleaning solvent company, but they added several other products to their line. Brownells sells some of their products. I can attest to their cleaning solvent as being some of the best for general cleaning on the market. It EATS carbon. It's also non-toxic, odor free and non-caustic, so I can use it in the house without the Boss (AKA: Mrs. Tac) having fits and kicking my butt outside in the 110 degree heat to clean my guns.... I use it heavily in the armory at work and we issue it to all of our troops. The only down side to their solvent is that it completely removes all the oil as well as the carbon, so you have to be sure to re-lube after each use (which should be common sense to most folks, but some cops are a little thick...)

Anyway, you won't go wrong with the Militec-1 for a good lube.

DTKWW, I like your choices in Sig hardware.... I shoot the P226 fairly well, but my single stack P225 fits my hand better and is slightly thinner and easier for me to conceal. The P229 is a great gun too.

Very nice Squeeze. I like that two tone look and the high bever tail is awsome. I think it should be standard on all of Sig's guns.

Trust me, the "Big pistols" are less picky than any .22. I have the .22 conversion kit for my P220 (.45) and it is WAAAAAAAAYYYY less concerned about the ammo it is fed than the Mosquito....

Gundoc... If you want to reduce that D/A trigger pull, go to http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=16487/Product/SIG_MAINSPRING_KIT

Pick up the spring kit and replace the factory 22 pound spring with the 18 or 17 pound spring and you will be pleased with the improvement in your D/A trigger pull.

In the event you are not sure how to remove/replace the main spring, shoot me a pm and I'll walk you through it. It's simple. If you have a screwdriver and can remove the grips, you can replace the mainspring.
