Sweet shot!
I had a similar experience with 55 grn Hornaday .223 TAP ammo and a prairie dog.... He stood up in the hole, then ducked down so only his head was showing and another one stood up behind him. I shot the ducked down one in the head and the resulting explosion killed the one standing behind it too! The shot was from about 60 yards out and my partner was scoping the standing one when the shot killed them both. He watched it at about 10x magnification on his scope. He was laughing so hard I thought he was going to cry... It was great.
I have killed prairie dogs, ravens, rabbits, squirrels and a pidgeon or two with my .17 HMR and I can attest to how violently explosive that little round is. I would never use it to shoot something I was looking to eat... wouldn't be much worth cleaning afterwards.
