On all of your adivce, reviews, and encouragement, another XD earned it's wings today. My buddy pulled the proverbial trigger and bought the XD Compact 9mm. I'm jealous. Range time is Saturday. What defensive JHP round do you guys prefer in this pistol? Critical Defense, Gold Dot, HydroShok, other?

Good to hear, he will love it, mine is extremely accurate for it's small size and really reliable. I opted for Gold Dot myself.

He'll like the Gold Dot option. He carries GD in .380 Beretta. I've shot the .40 XD in full size, and I felt the match barrel made a difference. It was very accurate out of the box with no experience on it. It sounds like the XD's are a good choice, no matter what the size.

I have had my XD.40 for almost 4 years, and it's only had one stove pipe, and it was a reload, and so far my 9mm sub xd has not had a single problem, its a great pistol for the price. The only thing that bugs me is the finish wears really quickly, nothing a little duracoat can't fix.

What I keep loaded in my XD45 is a half dozen hydrashocks and the first few in the chamber are a couple blue and silver tipped glazer rounds. Because after all where does that first round go when it goes through the wall? I don't so if it takes more than one or two glazers to stop a person then the hydrashocks will take care of the rest. I still like my Mossy Tactical Cruiser (wih front and rear pistol grips) for home protection.

Your buddy will undoubtedly be happy with the XD... As for ammo, I highly recommend the Winchester SXT line of defensive ammo... In all of our shootings with it at work, none of the bad guys have lived to complain about it's performance....

Nothing beats real world experience!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the 9mm Ranger SXT or the Gold Dots. Most of our fights have been ended with Trophy Bonded 5.56 bullets or the M-14s, but in the fights that have been ended with a pistol Gold Dots were used.
