I got a last minute tip on Wednesday that Gander Mountain was running some huge gun promotion at the Ashland, VA location this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The promotion was based on them receiving the entire inventory of guns from a fire stricken GM store in NY. While that store is being remodeled, the residents of VA will benefit from the fire sale. I needed a slug barrel shotgun, but came home with something unexpected. After finding some great deals and some not so great deals on long guns, I decided to move to the handgun selection. Almost immediately, my eyes dropped on this girl...

Springfield XD 45ACP 4" in Flat Dark Earth and 4 x 10 round magazines

Although marked 'used', she only shows the marginal wear of a display model from a Bass Pro counter and has no indication of anything being fired other than the factory ops check. I'm thinking about giving her to the wife, since she really likes my HK USP 45ACP.

Here they are playing nice with each other:

$500 gun had for $300. Sold!

If the wifey doesn't want it, I may flip it after I shoot her a few times.

i loved my xd .45 so so much i sold it for 420 and it probably had 6,000 rds through it. ill trade ya an aimpoint comp m2 in mount for that? ive never shot the hk in 45 just a 40 compact but i know youll love that xd. i was sick with mine and could double tap between the eyes all day long. but seriously consider that aimpoint trade its in great shape.

I don't know whats better about that story... the art of the deal or the XD .45... I love my XD .45. They got that one right and for that money, you can not go wrong. Well done sir.

Hey guys. I've been offline since I posted this topic. While the gun was a hit with the wife (she came in to visit me on duty for the weekend), she says that most guys buy their wives lingerie. LOL. She can't wait to take the XD to the range. I decided to open carry last night with the XD instead of the USP. The holster that comes with the XD is a POS and I felt a little exposed. This gun deserves a better holster. I carry the USP in a SERPA, but I'm thinking I need some leather. I was out with another couple on a classy evening a few weeks ago, and I didn't want to wear the Miami Classic, so I went with Kydex. Didn't like the look at all. I like the more compact feeling of the USP over the XD (shorter grip), and they are both accurate pistols. I do really like the 10 + 1 of of the XD over the 8 + 1 of the USP though. A range test is coming Monday. These two guns are pretty evenly matched up as far as I can tell, but you can almost buy two XDs for the price of one USP. And, the extra couple of 45acp's in the mag are a nice addition.

I need to get you a full report on the KTpf9 prototype II. I've got some feedback for you there. I just need to get off my ass and type it up. I'd like to buy a leather holster from you for the USP as well. Something to wear with a suit is what I have in mind. I'll talk with you about it off line.

I've got a CompML2 in a GG&G mount already, and although I'd really like the CompM2 instead of the ML2, I don't really have a need to use NVA right now. That would be a great swap for me though, so I appreciate the offer!

I think I'm going to have a love affair with this XD, and since I'm a big fan of the 45acp round, it may be a match made in heaven. I'll post up some range pics early in the week.

The standard mags for the XD 45 are 10 rounders. The Service Model and the XDm come with 13's as fare as I know. I can get 13's for it, but the grip is already longer than the USP which makes it difficult to conceal under a loose shirt. If I was shooting IDPA with it, I'd get the extended magazines. For carry, 10 + 1 of 45acp is enough. I usually carry 1 to 2 spare mags. If I need more than 31 rounds, I'd have some serious explaining to do in court. Remember, every one of those that misses has to be accounted for.

Room... You might have some Cali mags for that gun, unless its a compact (which by the pic does not seem to be the case). Cohen is right about the factory XD and XDm .45 mags being 13 rounders. I have 7 mags for my XD.45 and they are all the 13 round mags. The standard XD mags are supposed to work in the new XDm .45 as well. It wouldn't hurt to give a 13 rounder a try if you run into one. Like gas, money or altitude, you can never have" too much" ammo....

As far as the holster goes... I don't have access to an HK to use to pattern and mold the holster... I am sure I can pick up a blue gun model to use for the holster, but it would up the cost of the holster. I might have to call around to my minions and see if I could borrow an HK for the weekend.... that usually involves me making 2 holsters.... one for the order and one for the lender of the gun used to make it (good thing I work cheap!)

Anyway.... don't be too hard on the wifey, if she doesn't like the XD over the HK... I am sure she has some other redeaming quality that would keep her from being shot....

(edit: after re-reading the oringinal post, those might be the dreaded "New Your City" magazines you have there..... my understanding is that they share that stupid rule, as well as many other "blue state" bullshi* regulations with the left coast...)

i was gonna say i had a 4 inch model and it came with 2 13rd mags and the went flush with the grip. that was probably the thing i loved most was having 13rds to sling down range. you just wait room shes a straight shooter and fast on the follow up shots.

Well guys, I'll have to check into that. I doubt this gun was a Cali gun, but it was a NY gun. Anyway, I guess I should check into some 13-rounders then, eh?

It's a 4", which makes it a compact AFAIK???

room the 13rd mags will fit just fine in that thing without change its size at all. the 13rd mag is the standard mag and so is the 4inch you have. the compact does still have a 4 inch barrel but it has a shortened grip like the subcompact do. i would guess they dont call it a subcompact because it still has a 4 inch barrel. yes you should look into some 13rd ones it will just make it a bit heavier but hey 13+1 of .45acp is bad ass!

LOL Cohen! I think I'm going to keep this XD. I carried it today and loved it. I bought a SERPA holster yesterday since the thing they call a holster that came with it is a POS. In the SERPA, it rode very nicely. Some guys at work told me that the 10 vs 13 mags are the same mag with the holes drilled in a different place and a different spring/bottom plate. I know the mag is exactly the same dimensions. Any truth to the spring thing??? If so, that's a cheap fix for converting the 10 round mag to a 13. Thanks for any advice on the matter.
