My bride is from the Philippines, and at first she wasn't much atuned to the gun culture of the U.S. She wasn't against it, by any means, but the Philippines is such a poor country that most people have trouble finding enough food, much less having the money to buy even one handgun. And you can own a handgun there, as their Constitution is modeled after our very own document, but again, the economic climate there isn't very good at this time.
I can even own a handgun there, and intend to once I retire and we move there. I'll have to obtain a carry permit, but since I'll be able to afford it I most certainly will. As long as you're a registered foreign national and you're married to a Filipina, you're good to go! And contrary to a lot of places in this mean, 'ol nasty world, Filipinos love Americans! They remember that we freed them from Spanish rule, and they fondly remember General MacArthur and the U.S Army returning to the Philippines to drive out the Japanese in WWII.
My wife, and her daughter(our daughter, I call her ours even though I'm not her natural father, kid loves me, I don't know why!
)go shooting as much as we can as time allows. She's attending the University of Florida on scholarship, but when she comes home on break one of the first things she says to me is 'Dad, can we go shooting?'. Smart, beautiful like her Momma, listens and takes instruction well(unlike her Momma
) and shoots lights out on top of all of her other talents and achievements. Great kid. Gonna make somebody a great soulmate someday, just as her Mom has done for me.
And her Mom is a damned good shot too! I know for a fact that you do not want to be on the business end of a handgun if she's holding it, as you probably won't make it if she pulls the trigger. Comforting, but kinda scary too, all at the same time.
Mom loves both of those Taurus handguns, the girl loves Dad's Sig P229, S&W Model 37 5 shot .38 special and his AR-15. So they both have good taste in weapons and are adept at handling them too.
Gotta tell ya, I am the luckiest guy on this planet, and I thank God for them every day.
