I shot my buddies Kahr CW9 -9mm last Saturday. I wasn't impressed with it. It fired everything we put in it, but the trigger pull is longer than 4 years of obama in the Whitehouse. You can take coffee break between the start of the pull and the bang. Don't buy the Kahr CW9 9mm while out looking! It's a great looking, reliable, quality made piece of art, but the guy who designed the trigger pull mechanism was on the crack pipe.

Sorry to hear about the Taurus 709... I had my hopes up too. I would considermore ammo and giving it another try before you decide to use it as a paper weight or loan it to some one you don't like that might use it as a ccw gun.... I have had similar experience with a couple of guns, as far as the FTE (failure to eject) goes, and once I hit a magic round count, the problem went away... don't ask me what the number was, as it was different for each gun, but it was usually less than 300 rounds. If all else fails, remember Taurus has a lifetime warrantee... sent the gun back and make them make it right. It might take a while, but it won't cost you a dime... they will even pay for shipping. Call them and get a return number then drop it off at UPS.

Either way, keep us posted on what happens.... Please.

Recoil... 'The guy who designed the trigger pull mechanism was on the crack pipe' LOL! That's funny right there. That trigger isn't for everyone. I have a Kahr CW45 that I carry pretty regularly and shoot for qualification to carry as a back up/off duty gun. That gun gave me fits for the first 150-200 rounds.... just like the manual said it would... then it broke in nice and hasn't hiccupped since. As far as that long trigger goes, it is smooth and long, with little stacking. For those of us 'old Farts' who grew up shooting tuned (or wore in) D/A S&W revolvers, the Kahr trigger feels much the same.

For folks who grew up with and/or think that the 'toggle switch' that Glock puts on their guns is what a trigger pull 'should feel like', then the smooth long arch of a Kahr Arms pistol will always feel foriegn to them.

You would be surprised at how well that Kahr trigger can be shot. I regularly shoot 4 inch-6 shotgroups with mine, off hand, under time constraints, during our qualification, at the 25 yard line. There are a couple of guys at work who actually shoot thiers faster and more accurate than I do mine.

At any rate.... the good thing about you shooting your buddies CW9 was that you found out that the Kahr trigger wasn't for you. Thats handy information to have sometimes.

Sounds like a classic Failure To Extract causing a 'class III malfunction'. Could be anything from extractor tension, broken extractor, tight chamber, oversized ammo, any number of things.... Either way, Taurus shoud fix it for free or replace the weapon/refund your money. Don't let them slide on it, send it back.

Kahr's coffee-break trigger is nothing more than lawyers in on the design. I've fired several revolvers, even owned quite a few in my life, none had that kind of travel in the trigger,not even in Double Action mode.

Kahr is a very reputable manufacturer,their firearms hold their value well and quality is on par with the best, but jeesh, my hair grew 1/4' waiting for it to go bam. You're right, It's just not for me, but others may find it reminds them of times when roads were full of horses and buggies and enjoy the nostalgia.

Good to hear that your gun store did you right and took back that lemon. You will not be disappointed in the XD, even if it is larger and not in the same class size wise as the 709.

You must have gotten a lemon of major proportions with that particular Taurus. I have two of them, one a 9mm semi-auto, and other a 5-shot .38 special I85. Both of these guns(and all Taurus handguns, as far as I know)are guaranteed for life.

I have never had one second's problem with either of these handguns. Nothing. I did have the feed ramp polished on the 9mm, but aside from this one thing I have had to do nothing else to either of these handguns. Both are dependable, accurate, affordable,and easy to care for. Again, I just think you got a real lemon. I would hope that this doesn't dissuade you from giving Taurus a chance in the future.

Of course, handguns are kinda like automobiles and small trucks........... lots of different models and makes are made to suit different tastes. You end up liking what you like, somebody else will like another make or model.
