In one of the magazines (think it was one from NRA) they got some award for great guns. Wonder how much that cost Taurus. I had one for about three months and cost me money to get rid of it. I sure like my H&K and Glock. My H&K is an older one and is my favorite. Next purchase is going to be a 1911 and still am a bit confused. The new Remington looks interesting but I also like Colts. Keep reading the post about 1911's and they are helping me chose.

Spot, I am seriously considering adding another 1911 .45 to my collection. I've looked at a review of the new Remington, but this little jewel at Cabela's has piqued my interest. The Parkerized version of the High Standard version is $499. This version has:

Lowered and flared ejection ports, Flat main-spring housing, Beveled magazine wells; but, it also has the GI sights I would have to replace as well as a GI grip safety and trigger that I could probably live with for the price offered.

Back to the topic... Dan, which piece of shi... I mean Taurus, did you buy and what is the issue? ( just for info, I have no dog in this fight because all the Tauri pistols I own are old ones and were considered sub-standard then... compared to now, when Taurus is a "name brand".)

I haven't heard a positive about their version of the 1911 (other than their price), with the exception of Clint Smith, (Thunder Ranch), who gave it a passing approval... All of their more recent pistols of the plastic semi-auto type have seemed to fall flat on their face once they hit the real world....... The "Judge" series of wheel guns seem to be keeping the company above ground....

I have a Taurus PT-92, blued, with Pachmyr grips that I put on it. The only work I've had done to it was having the feed ramp polished.

Aside from being too big and heavy, I did carry it as a duty weapon for a couple of years, right after I ETS'ed from the Army. I bought it off one of my buddy's who was getting married and was strapped for cash. $250.00.

That handgun is accurate as can be. And after having the feed ramp polished, it eats any kind of ammo you can put in it. No hang-ups, no misfeeds, no FTE's, completely reliable. Totally reliable.

I also have a Taurus I-85 .38 special snub nose. Accurate and reliable.

I've had no problems with either Taurus. Maybe I've just been lucky, but prior to reading about this, I had not heard of any bad reports on any Taurus.

When I turned 21 I celebrated by getting a pistol.I picked up a Taurus PT111 millenium (non-pro). I wasn't sure what to look for in a handgun at the time. I quickly found out a few things i didn't like. It was anything but reliable. The thing jammed at least once every two to three mags. I too sold my Taurus too cheap. So I bought a Glock and do not plan on ever selling this pistol. It's too reliable to sell when all these new guns coming out seem to be having recalls and problems everywhere you look.

Spot,I think it was the 24/7.If I remember right.I personally don't every trust a review on a t.v. show or magazine about any product. I've never seen a bad review on a product that advertises in any magazine.I ask the owners of the product and get a honest opinion.

I have had three different pt-92 pistols, one older blued model and 2 stainless, one was the newer polished one with pearl -ish grips...they all fed and functioned fine, shot to point of aim and were accurate enough for me. It is mostly the 1911 models that seem to have issues....but I haven't tried the new polymer guns yet. The gf wants one of the pink 9mm guns for ccw....we'll see.

I think Taurus makes a good revolver; however, their SA's have issues that have uncovered their Achilles heal.....customer service. I don't think Porsche themselves would sell many cars if their customer service sucked as bad as Taurus'. It's a shame, because I like the Judge, and would consider it or another of their revolver offerings. But, in good conscience, after hearing the horror stories from friends, co-workers, and now board members, I wouldn't give the company a dime of my money.

I've had quite a few Taurus Revolvers and pistols like the PT-92/99.....and still have 2 of the revolvers that were bought a long time ago(80's-90's)......They "USED TO" make a good product for the money - But doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Hope someone at Taurus is listening......There are a lot of other guns on the market without dealing with their BS - I'd rather buy a Used Beretta or S&W than a New Taurus after hearing these stories.

From the things I've looked into, Taurus' main problem is they tend to use too many cast parts in their semi-autos. I've never owned one or fired one so I'm sort of spit-balling here. Other forums seem to have similar complaints and it looks like the $$ paid isn't worth the $$ spent to fix these things.

I've put around 600-700 rounds down the pipe of a 1911 R1 with great success. Will likely be doing a a complete review in the near future - by near future I mean several weeks of course but they are stand up. If you have any questions I may be able to answer them - we had an extensive Q&A with Remington staff.

I had a Taurus PT-22 arrive from the factory with a broken firing pin! I'm glad I never carried that pistol as a back-up weapon before I fired it! I still own a Taurus snub-nose 85 .38 that I love! So I'm 50/50 on this subject gentlemen.

I think most will agree with you on the fact that Taurus makes better revolvers than semi-autos and that their older guns were better quality than their newer ones. I bet that 38 snub is a great ankle gun!

I bought the PT140 pro. I got lucky because now it works perfectly. ( still not getting another 1.Fu** Tuarus) Took 8 weeks to shoot my new gun. That alone will make me go to a different brand.

But a month or so later the girlfriend and I are at a gun n knife show and she falls in love with the taurus pt709. So we get that and regret it later. I gave taurus another chance n they bent me over again. ah what did i expect its taurus.

AWARDS! Taurus couldn't be more undeserving of an award. They should AWARD their customers compensation. At least fire the morons that work there. Probably wouldn't have anyone left if they did.

Anyways I got the pt709 back after filing a bbb complaint and it shoots like a bb gun now. no accuracy. hopefully the barrel just needs breaking in?( doubt it) only shot 100 rounds through it so far. We'll see
