I have been thinking of upgrading my charging handle to accommodate my eotech magnifier. I kinda like this set up. Any opinions or reviews on this?? Thanks for any advice.

I don't have first hand experience with that exact product from ASA, but I have handled and worked on some of their other rifles and components and to avoid slandering their name, I will refrain from posting my exact thoughts, but suffice it to say I do not hold that company's products in high regard....

Lets just say you couldn't give me one of their rifles...

I have an AR upper with a charging handle on the right side that was very simple to modify

Got it from these folks. You can use it with or without the handle
attached and you keep your standard charging handle. I does however
reciprocate with the bolt, but it is not obtrusive enough to be of
consequence IMO. I like it and don't believe there are any pressure
issues with modifying the bolt in this manner. Anybody that can drill
and tap confidently can do it themselves. It's convenient for shooting
from a rest

To make the charging handle easier to function with my Aimpoint 3x installed, I put a Badger Ordnance Tactical latch on it. Worked for me. No snagging on stuff either.

I looked at the badger tac latch but I think the 'Gunfighter' from BCM is a better tac latch. I just like the concept of a side charging handle on the AR. Addax also makes a side charging upper that looks good. Was just looking for some opinions.

Just get a PRI Gasbuster, or the Badger Latch. I have the gas buster on my personal AR and it doesn't get in the way of my magnifier, and I have the badger on my work M4 and it doesn't get in the way of my Elcan.

I don't think the gasbuster would work on a piston system. Think I will just go with the BCM Gunfighter mod 4. Thanks guys!

Oh yea, I rock the Elcan SpecterDR on my M4 at work, I would get one for the home weapon but the wife isn't fond of the idea of dropping $1800 on an optic.

I've got the PRI Gasbuster on my home AR and it has the Adam's Arms Piston Refit on it. I've never had a problem with it. As long as the piston had been installed correctly with the spacers and as long as your gas key/block is installed straight there shouldn't be a problem. Either way I'm sure the mod your going with will work great, just letting you know about my experiences.

I appreciate it. How does the gas buster bleed off some of the pressure when the gas is going to the piston? Seems like it would be great on a direct impingement system but not so effective on a piston, am I wrong in this?

It's not very useful with a piston system since the gases stay at the gas block and not a whole lot make it back into the reciever area. In a normal system it helps direct the gases that escape from around the charging handle downward and away from your face. I like it with the piston system and with the EOTech Magnifier because of the bigger latch but it's not big enough to get snagged on anything and still gives the appearance of a clean normal charging handle.

That side-charger looks interesting but I just don't trust anything that's new and unproven. If it's a good system and gains popularity (meaning more makers building them) I may have to get one some time down the line.
