ok so here is what happen i tooke of my whole stock and tube and in the prosses of unscrewing the tube from the main body of the gun i noticed a skinny spring i would say maybe an inch in a hlaf maybe 2 inches long hanging out of a lil whole in the body of the gun and in the process of unscrewing the tube it gont bent some how if u can understand my jibber jabber i just typed i just need to no what that spring does cuz its preaty mest up i will post pics of what iam talking about the the camera is done charging

im not really sure what your talking about but if you get some pics up im sure someone will be on very soon who can help you. i bought my rifle as a complete rifle and dont know it inside and out like i should. you could be talking about the buffer spring.

A picture would help.If you are referring to the one at the rear of the lower receiver where the threads for the buffer tube are at six o'clock pointing upwards it's for the buffer detent.It keeps the buffer spring from shooting out of the stock. Don't know the correct name.Cheap repair you should be able to pick one up at Midway.If your not talking about that please hold for another available assistant.

jinxed i no what ur talking about its a differant srping its about the same leangth but thiner and it pushes up against the plae that the locking nut pushes on tha keeps the buffer tube in place and the spring points out words from the gun on the lower receiver ill get picks as soon as i can

Rear takedown pin detent spring I think. Get a new one but you'll be ok 4 a while. I hope you didn't lose the detent itself. Does your rear takedown pin pull all the way out now?

The spring you are talking about is the Rear Take Down Pin Detent Spring. You can get one of these for a 1.00 or so or you should, if you have a little extra cash, buy a spare parts kit for around $40.

There are all kinds of kits, detents and springs, or you can get them in a complete Spare Parts Kit. Just about every manufacture offers these kits. The name of the part I gave you is accurate, just look around at Midway or Brownells or whatever parts depot you like.

lolyea yall are right i figured it out when i whent to take it all back apart and the take down pin came out came all the way out then the pin on the inside fell out to lol i came on here to let yall no but yall where all over it like stink on shit thank you guys

AR-One Five,

Here's a schematic from Midway USA. You can locate the part and number of any part you need. Click on the link by the number to their catalog listing.

RR556 and Pyro gave you excellent advice, particularly relating to having a parts kit. A lot of the kits fit in the hollow grip. You will be glad you did if you are out in the boonies of South Texas and you lose a spring or break something on your rifle. That can turn into a "bad day". Saying that, it's amazing what you can do with bailing wire and duct tape, but I wouldn't want to wire the upper and lower after a rear take down pin loss.

I'm in agreement with IP and RR. I've had a lot of guys here at work think they know what they were doing when they wanted to replace the end plate with a singlepoint attachment and screwed up a lot of them...sounds like you did the same thing. It's an easy fix, maintain the detent and the spring can still be used for the time being but I'd get it replaced. From Brownells you can get DPMS pins and spring kits for around $10-15 each and they are handy to keep around for mishaps like this.

ya i had never taken the stock off so as i was unscrewing it i bent the spring for the rear breakdown pin but hey u live and u learn i got it all back togeather works fine shot 300 rounds today for fathers day my wife tooke me to the range no issues it was a good fathers day

I have done that to all 4 ars that I own, and if you use a collepsable stock you dont have to use that little plate to hold the spring in.

PS dont forget to tap very slowly and use oil.
