Any place you see wear in the finish is a friction point and lube would be appropriate. If the gun is new, lube the slide rails on both the frame and the slide, the barrel lugs in the slide and on the barrel and a light coat on the barrel near the muzzle (to lube the friction point at the barrel bushing).
As for oil, I use mostly MPRo7 oil because I have access to it free at work, but just about any good quality "name brand" gun oil will do. MilTec makes a great lube also and I highly recommend it, if you can find it.
