Fox-
About that court ruling.
Even though I'm a vet, and absolutely abhor what this douchebag is doing, and what the douchebag in the referenced court case did ... it was a good ruling. The way that law was written, you could charge Tom Hanks under it for wearing the Medal in Forrest Gump, or, hell, John Wayne for wearing a uniform and medals in any of his movies, or Tom Hanks and Anthony Edwards for Top Gun.
The judge gave the government an easy out, too: rewrite the statute and narrow the focus so that it requires intent to deceive, rather than simply making a claim, or wearing a medal. With such narrowing, it would pass judicial scrutiny, and be enforceable.
The law is all about technicality. If we make the laws too broad and open-ended, then we wind up with the potential to give up far, far more in rights than we gain in security.
But, that said, what a fucking douchebag, trying to pass off that spare tire and radio getup as
SF ... ?
(Also, htat wasn't
SCOTUS that made the ruling, it was (I'm pretty sure) the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.)
