Ok. I know EoTech is the way to go, and I'll get one later. But for now I am looking for a cheaper red dot sight.

Right now I'm looking at the following:

The two you have picked out are around $150. This EOTech is $379:

EOTech 510

The difference of $229 is small when compared to the HUGE difference you get in quality.

How long did it take you to save $150? What do you need to shoot with a red dot sooooo badly that you couldn't put off the purchase while you save the extra $229? Otherwise, you are going to pay $150 for crap and then have to save an additional $379 to buy what you really wanted in the first place. You will have spent $529 in total, which could have got you into an Aimpoint or high end EO.

Patience. Use the irons until you can squirrel away an additional $229. You will be much happier and prouder of your purchase. I'm not going to go into all the nuances between junk knockoffs and the real McCoy, but I will say this: You probably have at least $1000 in your AR, so why top it with $150 Airsoft glass?

Ok, as I said, I know EoTech is the way to go. I'm not debating that. I just don't know if I really want a red dot or just use my iron sights - and I figure $150 to figure out if I want a read dot is less of a kick in the shorts than $379. If I was going to get an EoTech I would splerge a little and get the XPS 2, since it's only $50 more.

If anyone else has any input on the two scopes that I mentioned earlier, let me know.

tax guy if your trying to find out if you want a red dot id still go with the eotech because this will actually have a resale value and a there will be people willing to buy it used where with a cheaper 150$ red dot wont have any resale value and probably wont have to many people looking for one so youll bite the whole 150$ if you dont want it. with the eotech if you desided you didnt want it im sure you could still sell it for probably 75-100$ less than what you paid since it is quality it will hold value alot better and in the end youll spend less if you decide you want a red dot and youll lose less if you decide you dont.

I bought my first Eotech 512for $300 used. I got every penny back when I sold it. I personally didn't feel like it was working for me. Unless perhaps I would be doing a lot of night shooting. :-/ Which i wasn't. Cohen is right on resale.Save the dough bro.

NIB $339 is the lowest price I've seen, but if you watch sites like gunbroker it's a possibility. That market is a little over populated right now with sellers.

I have seen all kinds of great deals on eBay. Also check out some of the knock off sights. I know where there are made so I do not need a lecture, but its been on a .308 rifle for 8 months and over 1000 rounds without any adjustments. It even looks just like an EOTech.

Tax guy,

I have the Bushnell trophy on one of my guns. It works, I like the site picture with two horizontal lines on each side of the dot and one vertical line under the dot. I turn it on, put the dot on the target and shoot the target. I have never owned an EOTech do they work differently?

i carried an EOTech on my tactical rifle for a while but now I use an aimpoint. all personal preference but save your money. iron sights have won us plenty of wars! haha. I bought a CMore that works with a carry handle, and I got stuck with it because it has no resale. I am still trying to get rid of it. Good sight but it wasn't "Tacticool" enough! good luck and be mindful that your sight will make the difference in a gunfight.

Well I will add to this....even if I am late.....
If you want functional at a price less than those mentioned, but still quality...check out the Burris XTS-135.....Half the price of an aimpoint and it held up to my AR-10 quite sufficiently, no matter what anyone says...it is worth the money if high end is not the issue...
